i have a 92 hatch with a y8 head/y7 block it has a 7.5 lb turbo kit. i had it at the track last week and here in VA they run the 1/8 mile. i ran a 8.89 at 82mph. then just last weekend i went to NJ and ran it at atco raceway and it ran 13.36 in the 1/4. this is an unbelevable single cam especially with all stock internals. just the turbo. but just yesterday my bearings in my ex trans gave out. so all i have is a dx with low miles on it. i was wondering how bad this is gonna kill my car when i swap it out to the dx. some say its better because i was spinning really bad through first and most of second and the dx will let me stay under boost longer because of the taller gears. true or false. trying to go faster not slower and need some help.

 

slower. shorter gears is better acceleration. common myth is that longer gears are better for turbo. not true.

 

Yes you will stay in boost longer, however, longer gears means slower acceleration. I dont think there will be that much of a difference tho.
