Default Not a Honda guy, but need some help for my friend.

OK, I've got my friends 91 Civic Hatch sitting in my driveway, I need to help him get this thing fixed so he can get it out of my way. He figures since the motor is blown that he will do a motor swap. Ok now hes got me a little interested. But he wants to do a ZC DOHC Jdm motor, I myself would like to see him do something else. But I'm curious as to what other options other than a B16 would be. I dont understand all the P8 Y8 this and that means, he will but I wont. but if you guys could point me in the right direction to find some other options for him that I could try and talk him into. Hes looking for some fun power but nothing ***** to the wall. Because he will be doing some lightweight stereo comps. It will be NA. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

He should go with a gsr motor.
Its probably the cheapest strongest motor to get at a decent price. Its more expensive than a b16 but has more power and displacement.

Ok, other than that. Any freakish head and block combos? I'm being completely honest when I say I know maybe 1/1,000,000th about hondas. Sorry, more of a Mitsu guy.
But the GSR is the B18? lol I'm just trying to get him to get something with a little more fun to it. maybe thats the best for the money? I dont know.. ZC is what 130 with the DOHC not the SOHC.. I guess thats what 40 off the b16.. IF he goes with a plain ZC DOHC should he stick with the same tranny. I was reading about a guy with a SOHC and he did some mini me deal and they told him to use the SI tranny. Same goes for this application? This is all very interesting, but I'm just curious if there is anything better than the ZC without spending 5k to do it. Hes stuck on it for some reason? Whats the upside to this motor vs. maybe a cheap head block combo of some sorts...

if he does not want to spend alot and does not want to go ***** to the wall the b16 and the dohc zc are perfect....if you get a gsr they are expensive and they are faster duh but the b16 could be what ever you want .......for half the price....he could go SOHC TURBO or ZC supercharged there fast as ****........but all in what you want..

what are the numbers on the d16 and what type of transmission should he use with it? and is the d16 sohc or dohc. I know the JDM ZC is dohc from what he told me. plus he wouldnt have alot of trouble just dropping the ZC in. same with the d16?

the a6 is the si motor from the crx and civic si's....sohc and it isnt making as much power as the others mentioned it is easier and cheaper....the numbers are nothing to drool over it just will make a good daily driver and you dont have the hassle of mounts, shift linkage and all that good stuff, the dohc zc is easy to but it is up to you

Cool. It isnt for me, friend of mine. looks like I lost the argument in finding something better than the ZC DOHC. I hate to lose. LOL Thats cool though. I guess I'll just help him with the ZC
