I have a 90 accord, and i got a huge patch of rust on the rear fender, the cars old so i dont wanna pay 1000 dollars for a body shop cuz its not worth it, So im gonna do it myself
the rust is about 4 inches, i wanted to cut out all the rust, cut out a piece of sheet metal to fit the hole, then get some magnets to hold the piece in place, and put a few spot welds, then bondo over it..
i have minimal body work skills, so if that sounds wrong, than my mistake..
But what would be the right way to do it?

Cut out the rust, leaving as much as possible of the body lips and design (so you don't have as much trouble duplicating them). Cut your replacement sheetmetal to overlap the area. Indent the body edges to be covered by the sheetmetal so you can maintain as much a possible of the same lines of the original. Spot weld, tack weld, or braze the patch sheetmetal in place. Use bondo to fill in the low spots. Do your magic to contour it like the original. Do your painting and finish. You're done.
