d15z1 oil warmer?
Yeah, yeah, I know that it's actually an oil cooler. But for the d15z1 fuel sipper engine, they call it an oil warmer? Now the d15z1 has all kinds of unique features that make it more efficicent, but how does this oil "warmer" help?
resting between the block and the oil filter, I stole this off of my d15z1 swap, and put it on my d16b5 (see sig)

Bense, does this piece have plumbing to an external radiator? Or does coolant just flow straight in and out of that adapter?
Been thinking of putting one of those on the B16A.

actually honda calls it an oil warmer.
it just allows warm coolant to pass across the oil filter housing helping the warming of the oil during below operating tempurature driving. warm oil means higher oil pressure, which is why its on the Z1, its the only usdm 1.5L vtec.
the vx also doesnt use the coolant temp to determine vtec engagement or not, therefore, the quicker the oil warms the more control over vtec engagement (16valve mode in the z1's case)
thats just my theory

lol, warm any liquid and watch it expand. it becomes thinner because its expanding. think about your coolant system, gets hot, expands, system pressure rises. like i said though, this is all theory

one line runs to the coolant "pipe" and the other line goes into the block.
I'm thinking I can just run a hose from the IACV, to one of the lines on the warmer/cooler and the a line from the cooler/warmer to the coolant pipe.

but the oil system is different, it enters the system hot and isnt heated all that much after it is pumped like the coolant system which is sealed, why do you think when you first start up your car at idle your oil pressure is at 80+psi but after driving idle is only 20psi? its cause it has been heated and thus thinner reducing pressure

here we go, d15z1 block with oil warmer removed.

and two shots of the gx block with the oil warmer

.

i'm curious about that empty threaded hole above the filter, what the hell is that? is it a place to mount the oil warmer "nozzle"????
