Default ls vtec build

After 6 months of research I've decided on a N/A ls vtec motor. This is a list of what I've pieced together so far:

B18b block
GSR gridle and caps
ITR pistons on ls rods with balanced crack
ARP rod bolts
ITR oil pump
GSR water pump
GSR head w/ITR cams and valve springs/retainers
Skunk 2 mani
GE head studs
Clevite bearing kit
Ls tranny

Plans include:

Block machine work (hot tank, deck, hone, line hone)
GE ls vtec kit
P28 ecu chipped tuned w/uberdata
Nology wires
MSD
Comptech headers
Rs-R exhaust
Port/polish

That's my basic build. As you can tell it's on a budget.

My goals are to build a mild performance/reliable engine that I can be happy with for a long time. I don't really have any horsepower goals but I want to squeeze out every little bit that I can. I'm not going to ask the 200hp question, but what do you think of this set up? Also, would you ditch the rods and pistons for performance ones? I have probe rods and nippon oversize pistons in mind.

I have money to buy anything that I need, but I don't think its necessary to spend on something thats not going to be a big gainer.

Help me out! Do you see anything grossly wrong with the way that I'm heading? I'm open to any suggestions.

Also, should I pay to have the bottom end assembled or do it myself?

Thanks and this is an awesome forum

you should get CTR cams not the ITR cams. the ctr intake cam has a higher lift.
make sure you also get a GSR timing belt.(if you get the gsr waterpump) and transmission you might want and try to find a gsr transmission , the ls transmission does ok with vtec but you might want somehing with shorter gears like gsr, b16 , or typr-r. make sure you blue print your block to. alos you might want to look into a new fuel pump some people have problem with the stock one so they simply changed it out and it ran fine. and if you really want reliability get forged pistons and rods and get your block sleeved if money allows.

looks identicle to my old motor. i had itr cams in mine and i always felt like they were holdind the motor back if i could do it again i would have done skunk2 stage 1's or maybe even 2's. be sure to get the golden eagle conversion kit the oil sandwich plate adapter is nice and it doesnt have the risk of breaking like a "T" fitting in your stock oil presure port. should be a fun motor to drive i dont think it will hit the 200whp mark but i could see it getting to about 190 but u never know till u hit the dyno. GL build it and post some pics of the progress.

also maybe try scoopin up a b16 tranny and the newer itr cams are supposedly damn near identical to the ctr. BCIII cams would be nice.

check this website out... I think the CTR pistons are gonna put your compresson ration way too high for pump gas. you may only be able to run race gas with that compression.
