your debating between a b16 and b18c and you have the money for both? um.. i wouldnt even hesitate with the gsr (B18c), its got better cams and better internals than a b16. Oh and not to meantion its already got more displacemnt on the 1.6 so therefore it has more torque only thing is that i THINK the b16 head is actually better than the gsr head, do not quote me on this because im not 100% sure but i THINK it is. last but not least, the gsr tranny has shorter gears than the b16 tranny
but ya with the gsr, you need to convert everything to ****** hydralic instead of cable, obd2, the works
have fun.

Im new at everything first time swapin....how would u convert it and is it hard and how much money would it be to swap it into a hydrualic
No need to swap to hydraulic tranny if you have a spare B18A cable tranny kicking around, swapping the internals in it, and maybe keeping the B18A fifth gear (better mileage on highway), then you can keep the cable style tranny, a little easier, and cheaper, then doing the hydro swap.
Swapping the engines is easy, wiring the car to obd1 (or 2, depends on your engine, ecu) is the tricky part.

Listen to me and listen good:
GSR!!!!!
I picked up a GSR long block from HMO when my b16 blew, and MAN was I glad I did!
But here's the imporant info:
-stay cable tranny. cheaper, easier, and this is SO important:
If you want LONG gears, get the LS Tranny. Otherwise, you'll be doin 4500RPM's at 65 MPH in 5th. I HATE my J1 tranny, I just want a LS trans.....
-Get a 94-96 engine: it'll be OBD-1, it'll save you the hassle of buying OBD-1 dizzy, FI, no point in buying these things later on individually if you can scoop it all now for (basically) free. I got a 97 simply b/c it was newer, not knowing then about the OBD's. Now, I'm trying to go OBD-1 and I have to get my injectors, ECU, etc.

If you can afford the B18c then buy that
Go hydro now and save yourself problems in the future. Hydro trannies are far more abundant than cable trannies. There is nothing harder about using the hydro tranny, and It's just as simple as the cable tranny. If you can get one with and LSD then that would be even better.
Also, If you are staying all motor, then don't waste your time with an LS tranny, or if you can manage it, don't get a GSR tranny. Try to find and ITR tranny or Si tranny. They have the same ratios but the ITR has an LSD.
My gas milage on my last two tanks has been 35 mpg. That's with a healthy mixture of highway, back roads, and stop and go traffic. So don't be fooled by "harsh gas milage" myths.
