any special order or mixing for paint?
ive been waitting for this spring to roll around to flat black my car, its a 93 si civ with the factory 13yr old black paint job. i already bought some ppg epoxy black primer with the "hardener?"(the stuff you mix it with). and i have a decent gun and air compresser ready to go, can anybody give me a brief step by step as to how i want to approach getting my car ready to paint and any special mixing instructions for the flat black ie. grit paper, how far down, how many coats? i really not planning on a show paint job, but i would like it to look >decent. thank you for all the help.
why did you buy primer? if you want to keep your car flat black you should have bought flat black paint or normal black paint with flattening agent. make sure you have stirring sticks, mixing cups, and filters. just poor the amount of paint you want in the mixing cup, add reducer. stir. then put a filter over the guns cup and pour it into the gun.
find a piece of cardboard or wood and setup your spray pattern on that.

i was told the epoxy primer through a spray good gives a nice flat black look, what about prep? i know i have to like sand then wash then like acetone then tack? is that right?
brother return the primer you won't be happy with it heres what you do assumeing your car has no dents or dings wash the car get it as clean as you can all the jams under the hood wheel wells than wet sand the car with 400grit until there is no shine left to the paint tape the car blow it off wipe it down with a wax greese remover i like 3939 i don't remember who makes it but prep-all will work and after you wipe the car down do NOT touch it with your bare skin than spray black sealer you will be tempted to stop here but it won't hold up you need paint so get you a gallon of base black "i like omni for cheap paint jobs" spray it and just don't clear it there all done
im starting to worry about the flat black now, so if i prime it then hit with (?) coats of omni (gunmetal if i paint it a color) then clear it with (?) coats, dry sand and so, ill be happy?
what will it look like with just the epoxy?
any one like that gunmetal 04' g35 color?

are you still planning on going with a flat color? i think g35 gunmetal would look nice but not flat. if you want a flat paint job, do it right and buy single stage paint and flattening agent. otherwise just paint it gloss.
for a n00b to painting, they shoud run a single stage paint. spraying clear is pretty hard. running single stage paint, means that the clear is part of the paint itself. once you spray the paint you are done. if you want to know what straight epoxy primer would look like try blazinlow.com s10forums and sites like that. generally they do alot of bodywork, so they dont bother painting their cars.
i spray anything i paint with an even coat of sealer first, then quick sand, 2-3 color coats, then even tho it is 1 stage paint sometimes i will spray a clear or 2 just to be on the safe side.

quick sand means after i prime it (can i use the epoxy primier i have?) then sand it flat again then color even if it has the sanding blotches where i sanded to the previous layer?
quick sand isnt a real autobody term. when you spray primer it isn't 100% even no matter how good you are. i use around 400 grit(if i remember right) wet sand paper to just sand it lightly with foam behind the paper or just using my hand. when you first go over it you will see the low spots in the primer. i just sand till they are gone. if i sand thru the primer, i generally just use a touch up gun and hit the spot again, then re sand that area. the primer you bought should be fine. sealer is normally urethane or epoxy.
when you start painting make sure to hit the cramped areas and jambs first with a touch up gun if you have one. then go over the whole car.
