Default K Motor's First Track Day

Generally decently performing. At the end of the day the oil was still so clean that it was hard to see.

Stock ITR and even the improved B motor I had would be classified as a momentum car, but with this conversion it's a weird compromise of momentum and point-and-shoot.

It'll out-drag some cars on the straight that'll surprise you.

I was turning the same lap times I used to turn, instead of faster lap times. LOL... I was so intimidated by the car's ability to break the tyres free under full acceleration that I was going through Turn 10 (type one turn) about 10 miles per hour slower than last year, but still reaching a high terminal speed before braking for Turn 1.

Going through the carousel also required serious throttle modulation to stay on course. A stock ITR can be flat out there (on good tyres of course) w/no problems.

Nothing bad to say about the car. When I get used to it, it'll be quite a bit faster than the previous motor.

Nice KPro? Give it time and you will be cutting seconds off of your old lap times

George,

IMO, that's a GREAT thing. If you turned times you were turning on such a familiar setup, you're well on your way. I felt so slow back in my first track day at CMP, that it actually discouraged me. I'm getting to know it better, but I've still got a LOT to learn with the new powerplant.

Glad you had fun and that power is awesome, isn't it?

I never thought of it that way. Let's not let Sir David know that I even know my lap times.

It's just so intimidating sometimes. You might remember the section at Summit going up hill after the carousel? You remember that bump that sort of throws you off a little bit?

Well, with the B motor and PS I barely noticed that bump.

With the K motor and no PS, that little bump is suddenly a very big deal that has to be managed carefully. I swear the first time I hit that bump yesterday it felt I jumped three feet laterally.

And the first time I bounced off the gater on the right after Turn 6 I thought I was going to end up in the stands. LOL...

Sounds like with the more laps you make and the better acquainted you become with your new motor you should have exactly what you were looking for with the swap

Although very costly, i predict this swap becoming even more popular then what it is quickly becoming now. Unfortunately that means theft will not see a change

Does that mean you're going to get your *** in gear and teach people how to win H1 again?

Did you want to moderate K motor forums just to tell people how dumb they were? Hmmm?

You know you want to.

George did the K20A (DC5R) swap. It's a real piece of ****, LOL

Jason-
who just ran a 1:48 at CMP, which was more than 3 seconds faster than his H2 track record, in his piece of ****.

Ooooh. Well, you see, that's why you are amazed I can run my same time at Summit.

I was only running 1:28's before the K motor.

I should have clarified. The fastest time I was able to get is the current track record for H2 at a 1:51.9. In other words, I ran over three seconds quicker with the K.

I'm coming from the Performance Pro Shifter, so the elevated shifter is just fine. It was moved back a couple of times, but the height's fine.

You would not believe me.

It's dropped on Showa/Mugen suspension as much as necessary to get -1.5 on the back and -2.5 on the front. It is dropped more on the front, but we need the rotation.

The tyres are 225-45-15 on SSR Type C's. At least that's what was on the car that day.

No clearance issues w/the oil pan. HASport makes a set of mounts that was designed to alleviate the early issues.

This led to a redesign of the axles, too.

Was looking forward to hearing your impressions on how the K is on the track. I was going to do a head build on my B but I was inticed by a offer for a cheap K20A2, so I took it. Now I'm just waiting on a few parts so next weekend I can put it to use. Looking forward to getting some track time at GingerMan before EXPO...Looks like I will enjoy the K....

Great 1st day out George! Looked good out there.

Funny to see you come past pit out and watch the vette's "try" to run you down.

You forgot about the GT3 Cup Porsche. I think he had about 40 miles per hour on me at any given point on the track.

JERRY! JERRY! JERRY!!!

I still want to request a oilpan clearance shot if you get a chance Gramps... I'm guessing the best would be to take it a pic on a flat surface to show just how much lower it hangs from vs. the front lip or something.
