Foggy head lights...
Recently bought my accord and it looks like the previous owner was a little liberal while waxing. That's what it looks like any way. My question is; does anyone know if there is a way to clean up my head lights? A certain cleaner, solvent, vinegar... flame thrower, something?
When I first got my car i had the same kind of fog haze on the headlights as well, so i went and talked to one of the detailers at my job. They told me to use this 3m plastic cleaner and polish, U can get this stuff at any Napa advanced or pep boys.
This worked pretty well for me. also the sand paper is a good idea to.
• Plastic Cleaner:
3M P/N 39017
• Plastic Polish:
3M P/N 39010
• Scratch-Free Detailing Cloth:
3M P/N 06016

Will the polish and sandpaper work on the unpainted plastic parts of my body as well. Like the trim around my windsheild and front bumper spoiler/baffle what ever that things called?
Actually there is a repair kit for that. It came out a while ago. Any body shop should know about it.
You know thats the clear coat on your headlights that fades right. All you got to do is to re-clear it. One of my friends did that on his Mazda-6. Bodyshop threw some dark paint into the clear coat, mixed it, painted and guess what? Smoked headlights baby!!!

Only downfall is that they get hazy after a while because you remove the clearcoat when you sand them.
A coat of polish every two weeks, or so goes a long way.

Unless your headlights are really bad, i'd just polish them. I found mothers aluminum polish followed by plastic polish almost always does the job. If it's really bad, and very yellow looking, then wetsand. If you do this on a decently consistant basis (every 3-6 months), your headlights should look good for the life of the car.
The reason why, your headlights get like that is because of all the sand, rocks and dirt that is thrown at your car while driving. All it does is scratches the clearcoat and road dust keeps on builing up in those mili-scratches. You can always clean the scratches out by any polisher and other products. Wetsanding basically does the same thing as cleaning. 1500 grit sandpaper is very fine and all it will do is: make the scratches smaller, thats it!!! and remove your layer of clearcoat. Any waxes and polishers will put moisture back into the clear and make it shine (4 a while) But the main problem is still there. Damaged clear coat.
Oh I see, thats understandable.
I just didnt want the guy to wetsand the clear off by an accident and then blame us for our help with that. Just wanted him to know what does what and why so he can make the desicion himself.
I would recommend doing your way first and see how it goes. I dont know if he wants to redo his headlights every couple of week though.
Well, all we can do is to give him his options, right?
