Default good replacement for winamp?

yes, kinda off-topic i know, but i figured this was the most appropriate place. i have been using winamp 2.91 for years, because the new versions **** me off, but now i'm looking for an all-in-one solution, preferably free or at least free to try. i want something that rips, burns, is capable of managing all my files, can read cd-text as well as write it, etc. musicmatch and i-tunes drive me crazy (mainly becaue they take too long to load). if nero did all of that i would probably be sold, but oh well. any ideas? i've seen media monkey, quintessential player, etc, but none of them float my boat. mods, feel free to move this if you feel it is in the wrong forum.

Winamp rips, burns, and manages files quite well. The only thing it can't do is burn DATA discs. Which sucks. But there's a plugin available that takes all the files in your playlist, numbers them, and copies them into a directory of your choice. That way, when you use some other software to burn the data disc, it actually stays in order of your playlist.

I used to use Nero and Musicmatch. I tried a whole bunch of freeware and gasp, cracked software, which I later uninstalled anyway cuz it sucked. So good luck.

so i've started using mediamonkey and it seems pretty pimp so far. anybody who's looking for a new program, definitely check it out! it loads very quickly, is relatively easy and intuitive to use, but has some very advanced features.

Does it support playlists? Can it burn audio and data cds? ISO DVDs? Can it randomly play my 1600 mp3's that each have their seperate folders?

Everything Microsoft puts out is junk rushed to market, full of super stealthy spyware, bent on some evil plot to monopolize the industry. I ******* hate it. Can't even leave the network cable plugged into my xbox.

i never liked the newer versions of winamp. the program just got too dense and slow. media monkey is pretty damn good tho.

Xbox connects to the internet and transmits data everytime you power it up regardless of whether you sign on to xbox live. It even makes you wait for it to do so. Unplug the network cable and your games load up faster, and microsoft doesn't gather data on which games you play and for how long, which version of the xbox you have and whether you have any modifications done to it. The xbox 360 is worse.

I'll give Media Monkey a shot.

they're just doing market research so they can develop their product. there's no evil ulterior motive.

Nero does burn WMA files, on mines it does? Anyways I really like winamp, I haven't anything that would outperform it.

if you use windows properly you will almost never see spyware
and if its junk rushed to the market, why has Windows Vista been delayed for so long?

but i'll agree with you on the evil plot part

you just have disable as much of that user-friendly garbage as possible. make it behave as much like windows98 as you can.

Hmm let's take a look at the history of Windows 95. Past due yet rushed to market... along with every single release since then. The customer becomes the bug tester.

Windows 98?! Holy **** I wont even touch that. Windows 2000 is the only decent OS Microsoft put out, and that's because it's scaled back to run efficiently on laptops.

Spyware wasn't the correct term for it but I don't know what is. How much do I like to wait for my xbox to upload statistics about me before I can play my game that I'm not even going to play live? Screw that. Cancel live, unplug the network connector, hack the xbox.

Gathering information about me without consent is something I consider an attack on my privacy.

I would call it spyware who gave M$ the right to enter my home? Even when you install windows on a fresh computer before it loads if the computer is connected to the internet it will call out to M$ and validate your CD. If your CD is invalid the software will not load. It does not tell you it is doing this, imagine what else M$ could do without your permission or your knowledge.

Just started using media monkey myself. The renaming Tags does not work all that well. It chooses the wrong file and does not give you the option to select the correct one.

you can play with it, you just have to mess around with the settings. the auto rename is a little tough to figure out, but it works.
