HELP! temperature gauge only moves from C to first notch (pic inside)
My temperature gauge has been acting funny. When the car warms up, the highest the gauge will read is the first notch. At that point, my fan turns on. When I drive on city streets (stop and go) the temperature will stay at the line and the fan will turn on, cool down, and turn off. But if I hop on a highway and drive at a constant speed, the temperature gauage goes all the way back down back to the C.
here my fan turns on.. probably the highest i've seen it go.
help a brother out. i searched and found posts on the topic with no replies.

Could be a bad sender for the temperature gauge. Take it out & put it in hot water with a thermometer. The Helm book (for whatever model & year you're talking about) should give resistance vs. temperature for that sender.
confirm that there is no oil in coolant and vice versa (aka: blown headgasket)
otherwise, i'll bet $$ it's the thermostat stuck open and overcooling

my bet is on the temp sensor. may just be reading wrong. if the thermo was stuck i dont think the fans would ever come on cause the engine wouldnt be getting hot enough.

There's no coolant in the oil. Does the sender have a technical name so I can go buy another one and replace it? Where is the sender in the engine?
For info: I did a compression check 190-180-185-190. 185k miles on the car.

what engine? im assuming b-series, that looks like a teg cluste to me. it is located on the tanny side of the head under the dizzy. i believe there are 2 of them, one is a 2-wire connector which is for the ecu. then there is a 1-wire one that is for the cluster itself. can anyone conform that?
LS motor, would u happen to have a diagram for that? if i knew what the part was called, i could look it up myself, but i do so i gotta rely on u
Here's a '95 LS engine.

Looks like #13 is the 1-wire sender for the gauge in the cluster.
Just FYI, #15 is the temperature sensor for the ECU, while #14 is the fan switch.

damn they are pretty close but not exactly the same. thanks jim, looks like we were both using http://www.acuraparts247.com should be an easy fix, i believe i have a leak from one of my temp sensors so ill be needing to replace some in the near future.
id make sure there arent any other problems with the cooling system before you actually order the part. sounds like everything else is in good shape but i would hate for you to order something you didnt need.
