ecu/tuning
i have a 2000 civic si with the b16a2 in it. this car comes with the obd1 ecu right?? Also i would like to kno if getting the car tuned will help in power(how much $ to do so)??? i have cams(stage 1 head job), aem cold air intake, jdm headers and catback apex'i n1 exhaust, along with a chipped ecu. i was also wondering if all memory in the ecu after being tuned, would be lost if the battery is disconnected.
actually ur car is obd2b..tuning ur car will cost somewhat alot bcuzz they gotta put it on a dyno and tune everything..usually a dyno tuning will cost somewhere between $50-100 an hour (just a guess never dynotuned my car b4 but i noe it costs alot) and no the memory wont be erased if u disconnect the battery
if its obd2 you would have to convert it to obd1 and you could just get a good street tune for around 150 to 200 or go to dyno and get a tune which will be better than a street tune for around 100 an hour and would probably only take about 1 1/2 hours since your n/a
alright. thanx for the help. i bought the car from the previous owner with all this already done. he said that he had it dyno tuned b4 the cams and chip added. so i would like to retune it to compensate for them. i am pretty sure its the stock ecu(havnt actually looked at the ecu yet), he only mentioned to me that he had a spoon chip put in.

i had the understanding that u could only chip the obd1. so if my car comes stock w/ the obd2 it must have been converted right? if i pull the ecu out how can i tell if its chipped? thanx.

The car from factory comes with a OBDIIb ECU, but apparently you're running a OBD1 ECU so I guess theres a conversion harness there.
Getting the car tuned will help a lot. It will most likely cost 400-600 then 100 every hour depending on the tuner.
That spoon chip is probably garbage.

Open the ecu and look inside of it. If it's chipped, the ecu will also be socketed.
I think the best combo is first a street tune for setting the partial throttle values, then on to a dyno for the full throttle adjustments. And dyno time is more expensive. I suppose it depends on who your tuner is and how thorough a job he wants to do.
