Default Comptech Filter

Sorry, did a search, but the archives are dead . can anyone give me their opinions on the comptech intake foam filter? How do you like it and if you don't, which filter do you like better.

You will not see any significant (measureable) gains over the Stock ITR filter.

I got it so I could re-use it...

0hp at the wheels on the dyno.
Only benefit is that it's re-usable.

Bought the filter to save money....

Filter pays for itself because it is reusable. A stock filter is about $40 bucks.

Do you want a filter that actually filters small dirt, or is HP gain the only thing you want?

I think they are a pain in the *** to clean, so I got rid of mine, plus their cleaning intervals are quite short, I prefer the k&N drop in filter .

I am mainly concerned about it not filtering enough. I have heard horror stories in the past about weapon-r filters allowing debris in the engine and causing **** to happen. HP gain is a plus. Reusable is a must

FYI:

According to Comptech their foam filter needs to be cleaned and re-oiled after every oil change or about 3 to 5,000 miles.

And Unfortunately I don't have the link, "but I will look for it" that shows the Comptech foam filter being one of the best flowing filters, even flowing more than the K&N, I will look for the link.

But, as many have posted their filter alone will result in negligable gains. The only reason I have 2 is for their ability for re-use. $100. for 2 filters and hopefully they last the life of the car Oh and since it fits so nicely in the icebox too.

Just spoke to them yesterday and after much curiosity and actually thinking the same thing, they stated that the: "with every oil change" was a good safe bet. The filter gets dirty and the oil just dissapears.

Do you guys think the comptech filter still worth it (the trouble of cleaning every oil change) if compare to a "almost maintainance free" K&N???

Absolutely, especially since with either the stock setup or the icebox the ease of cleaning is not that much that I would consider it a hassle. And thats why I bought 2 filters, so I don't have to wait. I always have one waiting.

And on the side of the K&N I can't fault their filter, it's just that it didn't fit my icebox.

As for the AEM/CAI I have a stronger opinion. When I removed the AEM/CAI from my LS before I sold it, IT WAS FREAKIN FILTHY! And after only 10,000 miles of average use. That wheel well is So dirty and everything got stuck and gunked to the filter. I also DID NOT splash through puddles or go mud bogging.

As for the K&N being maintenance free, that is something new to me? I always thought that Re-Oiling the filter was part of it's maintenance?

I'm not JUST a pro comptech guy or a negative K&N or AEM guy, especially since I've owned both I'm just sharing based on personal experience.

I have used it for more than 2 years now with no problem. I clean it once every other oil change. The foam is high-grade and doesn't deteriote or fall apart. As for filtering capabilities, it's always debated. Some say it has better hp gain, but at the expense of getting some dirt in. Some say it filters as good as the K&N since it is the oil that actually gets most of the dirt. I tend to agree. If you look at the filter, the design along with the oil does a good job at filtering out all the dirt. Like I said, I haven't had any problems with it.
