i was told that both the A/C compressor and the receiver dryer needed that special oil added to both of them. All i need to know is how much oil goes into both of them. Thank You for your help!

u still have R12 or was it retrofitted w/ R134A?

fill the receiver/drier???? wha???????????????????

if it's still a closed system. it can be done w/ very expensive specialized equipment...

take it to the shop for this unless you have the vaccuum pump to evacuate the refrigerant & oil to measure how much u have "pulled out" from the system

if it's already apart & you're replacing w/ new compressor, then add the proper amount to the compressor only/ not to the receiver/drier.

either way, you'll need that vaccuum pump to make sure your system is "dry" & sealed before recharging...

 

for long service life you want to make sure that it can hold a vaccum for at least 12 hours. If it cannot, find the leak(s) and fix them. The only time a receiver dryer should be repalced is if the following are true

1. System was opened up for repairs (IE they replaced a line, compressor, etc)
2. IF the system was converted to r134a from r12 (pre 1994 cars only)
3. Your compressor has failed and metal crap has been sent through the system (usually gets trapped at the "H" expansion valve. So see #1 above.

 

The reciever drier is a filter that takes acid out of the a/c system. Its very common to put one in after a compressor has failed.

 

Anytime the system is opened I reccomend replacing the drier. WHat you can do is drain the old from replaced components and add the same amount of new oil to the new component.
And changing the oil with an R-12 to R-134A conversion is not required (as long as the oil is not contaminated with metal or other inpurities)

yup i know that, but u don't put oil in the receiver/drier... just to the compressor or if it's still in a closed/sealed system... injected thru the machine

if compressor failed, highly suggest getting an inline filter as well to catch any metal particles floating around... even after a flush, some may linger in there

 

is the receiver drier fairly easy to get to. can it get pretty plugged up...my high side pressure is high and the low side is really low...plugged drier?
