Default Newbie EP3 Suspension thread...

Hey guys,

I'm new here and pretty new to car mods.

I wanna improve suspension on my civic EP3 and not spend too much. Money is a factor, as is value and I wanna get a good value.

Koni Yellows? Eibach Pro Kit?, or should I go w/Coilovers? Coilovers cost a lot more, though.

I'm also considering getting an RSX-S swaybar for my car. I was told it would fit & would firm up my ride. Anyone know how I could find out for sure?

Thanks

Considering you don't have much to spend here are some options I'd recommend:

1) Find an HFP suspension setup...typically you should be able to find these for under $500. Lowers the car about an 1" and it's OEM. This is likely to be your best bet given cost vs. performance.

2) Mugen SS...will run you about $1k for a 1.5" drop. Pricey, but from what I understand it's well worth the cost and its one of the few options that would give you a headache after you have changed the suspension geometry.

3) A coilover setup such as tein basic...should be able to find this for under a grand. The only downside is that you'd likely be tempted to lower more than 1.5"...at which point you'd be exposing yourself to a new set of problems: creaking steering rack, knocks, etc. (assuming they don't develop naturally).

I know some people have gone the koni yellow route; but I don't have a whole lot of information about the various combinations that exist. I'm sure someone will chime in with more info on this...

EDIT: About the RSX-S rear sway...I'd highly recommend it, if not the 22mm JDM bar. I'm planning on doing it myself and have heard that it really makes a HUGE difference in performance.

I'm gettin the sway bar.

$100.

Dunno about the suspension geometry. So I'll consider the Tein Kit. I gotta do more research on this.

If you are looking at a full coilover setup I'd stay away from the teins as they do not lower the steering arm mounting point like the buddy clubs or even the new megan racing coilovers do.

i say get the Mugens. May cost more compared to height adjustable coilovers, but they probably don't have the engineering Mugens have. Plus the Mugens have a lower steering arm

Couldn't find any HFP suspension on Ebay or craigs. I'm gonna try and see in this yard I know. Dunno where else I could find this. Dang that entire HFP kit is like 4k + installation. Not cheap!

phthalo -

Thanks for the tip on the x-brace. I am looking into that. The car does sway a lot, so If I could reduce sway, I could prob get better suspension w/o going go-cart-tight on the suspension.
