What does everyone think of the LS motor?
A buddie of mine just rebuilt his LS motor and hes gonna sell me the motor, tranny, and ecu for 850. The motor has a new crank shaft, bearing, valves, springs, and the head was ported, polished, and shaved. He's selling it because he wants a camaro
Anyway... i'm thinking about going all motor with the LS. Can i pull alot of hp out of this motor without going ls/vtec? I havent heard many people talk about this motor so im just trying to get as much info on it as possible.
Thanks!

is it a b18a or b18b. ls motors have a lot of torque but not as much high end hp as a b16a for example. they are cool cheap motors. great motor for a turbo. do a search for b16a vs ls or b18b(or a) vs b16a
850 doesnt sound bad for complet swap, get his axles, intermediate shaft and shift linkage... dont remember if you said thats included or not

get it man, a friend of mines has one in his eg, and man that **** is quick, he just got his head done, (crower stage 3 cams, crower, valve springs and retainers, and much much more), and damn that **** gots mad torque, he be smokin b16s all day long even without the head done, but yeah just get it, you'll love it!! thats why im getting mines tomorrow
Thanks for the reply's. His axles are all messed up so im gonna have to buy new ones since we dont have any junkyards around here. does anyone know how much the axles and intermediate shaft cost brand new? I also heard that there is a way to use the integra motor mounts instead of buying a hasport or place racing kit. Has anyone heard of this? If anyone wants to talk on AIM my s/n is hondacrx89sir (i know its not a sir but si was already taken )
One more thing.... i was thinknig about putting a 50 or 75 shot on the motor. Is this a good idea? How well would the LS hold up with a shot like that? From what i hear they are pretty tough motors.
i say pick it up aswell, i have a 95 Ls with pr3 pistons, crower 404's, 4-1 header, 9lbs flywheel, in my 91 hatch, i like my set up very much. but if your going N/A do your self a favor and ditch the Ls tranny and get a cable geeser one.
The motor and tranny are out of a 91 teg so it already has a cable tranny right?
s13 slide, do u have any quarter mile times for ur setup? Also, does the LS ECU have a speed limiter and whats the redline on the LS motor?

I would get the axles anyways and use them as cores.
I have not hit a speed limiter in mine, so I don't think there is one. I could be wrong though. Redline is 7000.

Well, if you want to go NA i would redo the entire head, get some titanium springs, retainers, etc. etc. however no matter how much you build the head you wont really ever get it to rev as high as a vtec motor. SO i would say forced induction is your best bet, just because of the high torque on the ls. Im rebuilding my b18a and if you note the pistons their already low comp. basically, theyll hold up to Nitrous, turbo, or any form of forced induction pretty well, with good tuning ofcourse.
I'd say get it, sounds like a good price
You can pull some power out of this motor with NA I'd say it depends on your goals. A hybrid LS with boltons and such is going to be fairly fast anyways, especially around town. Top end is where the LS starts losing it. I'd say if you want to go all motor get some Crower Cams, I know of a lot of LS guys that love their crower cams, maybe a smallish shot of nitrous. I dont remember his sn, but theres a guy on the Teg board thats running a 75 shot..I'd say turbo would be the best tho. Im going turbo on my LS soon..If you had a b16 or b18c Id probably tell you all motor.

First off, The remark about" you will never rev as high as a Vtec motor", Think again !. A vtec motor only revs like it does because it is balanced , the head flows enough air and the secondary lobe moves enough air at high RPM. Balance the bottom end, Port the head and set the cams up to move the air needed and Guess what, You will have the same power as a Vtec motor, Think about it !.
Also, Titanium is not a spring material, That would be like making valve springs out of lead. Ls motors put togethe rright run head to head with Vtecs all day !

Thanks alot for all the info. After i get the motor im gonna put the crower cams in it and get the head ported and polished. Since i dont really have the money for a turbo setup im gonna put a small shot of nitrous on it. Does the LS motor have hood clearance problems like the b16?
I used to have a 1995 B18B in my Civic HB. But I found the performance to be a total letdown. Perhaps this is because I was used to my B16A CRX. But I just did not feel like the LS really had it. I found that the torque that the LS supposedly has so much of was really only marginally better than the B16A. It certainly did not make up for its HUGE lack of top end power. So I ditched that motor in favor of a B20Z. Now THAT'S a motor. In fact, I would tell ANYONE who is even THINKING about an LS motor to get a B20Z instead.
I would say go for the ls my friend has a built ls and it is a good engine... But you can always get it put a little money and do the ls VTEC
. Now that is a good idea.

Well for now its going to have to stay LS since i dont have the funds to go LS/VTEC at the moment (still in highschool). Thanks for all the replys!
Since we're on the subject of LS' ... does anyone know of a way to put a Jackson Racing Super Charger onto an LS (other than puting a VTEC head on it). I think that would be a great combo, but the guys at JR say it won't fit.
yeh around 7k is right. Ive had the Teg up to 125 in 5th and I was close to redlining, I guess that if I was at 130 I would have been to redline in 5th. About the SC, I hear it can be done but the firewall has to be cut into.
