Default k20z vs k20a3

Alright so i know the basic differences between the a3 and the z but what are the major differences are there any? will all the parts from the a3 work on the z models (aftermarket parts)?

dunno why you would use a3 parts on a z.

there is a long list of differences starting with
Head,
IM,
TB,
CR,

Goes on and on and on, like all the threads that have discussed this before...

If you're like me and wanted to use the Z3 motor on an EP, you'd probably want to swap the intake manifold and throttle body (different layout for the IM, and can't use the drive-by-wire on the EP as far as I know).

The usual i/h/e boltons would have to consider fitment in the EP chassis, of course. But if you can manage a combination of parts that'll still fit while exploiting the capabilities of the Z1 or Z3, then that's even better.

I think you're going to have to ask people about a specific part. It depends.

Your common sense impression of whether or not it would work will probably be correct.

Are you putting a Z3 or Z1 into an EP3? Or are you moving from an EP3 to an FG2?

k20a3 is the 160hp 02-04 si/base RSX motor that comes with 5 spd tranny

k20a2 is 02-04 RSX-S rated at 200hp - 6spd tranny

k20z1 is 05+ RSX-S motor rated at 210hp w/6spd tranny

k20z3 is 06 si motor rated at 197hp (sae corrected for '06 - really same as 210 of z1) comes with RBC IM = best IM & limited slip in tranny

what the hell are you doing again? lol

heads are completely different & parts of head from a3 compared to a2/z1/z3 parts are not really interchangable (but someone has done it with extensive modifocation)

Im new here, and to the EP3, so any information would be great. My Lude got totaled... so a new 06 civic LX and 05 EP3 took its place. I was hoping an 06 si tranny would bolt onto my stock k20a3 block... a head/ITM from the 06 si with the cabled TB from the K20a3, and i hear rumors that the K24 cams fit the K20aX... with little modification or parts swap. Im new to the K series... i had spent time on the F/H series for the Lude, and never paid attention to know much about the K's. Im assuming i need to drop the coin and get a KPro before i really start swapping any parts, so i can tune from one change to the next...? Any suggestions?

You would need a different shifter box inorder to run the 6 speed tranny. I reccomend just buying a K20a/a2 swap to fit in. What your wanting to do is to much as well to much work for what you will be paying.

You mean just swap the engine... and keep the current 5-grinder? The tranny on the a and a2 is a 6 speed, right? Since there is a different shifter box in the Ep3... i would basically need the a/a2 short block, head, ITM, TB, and the rest would just bolt up? Should i snag the ECU as well, or save a few bucks and use them towards the KPro? What about my wiring harness? I wonder if the LSD from the 06 tranny would work in my current tranny... or does the a/a2 tranny come with an LSD that would swap? My goal is all motor and good streetability... but who doesnt want that... right?

My 06 civic with the R18 engine is throttle by wire... the Ep3 is cable... what is the TB on the a/a2? Is it cable like the a3? Could i possibly ask ANY more questions?

Thanks for your help...

All of your questions have been asked, and answered, since at least 2002. Well, the questions that don't relate to the K20Z variants, anyway.

A2 swap into an EP but pictures only, unfortunately:

Thanks for the input! After doing alot of reading and searching, i am leaning more towards a K24 bottom end and the K20 head. I just want to be informed as to what i need, so i dont have to buy twice, and just do it right the first time. No half a$$ing yanno. Im sure i will be bugging you guys alot more as time goes on. Thanks again...
