Default f23a1 good for turbo?

hi im new to f series but not to sohcs
i recently obtained a 97 f23a1 longblock with overheating problems
i am assuming a blown headgasket resulted
i was planning on doing a stock rebuild and looking for an accord to put it in but now i want to build it for turbo if it is worth it

In stock form the ring lands seem to be the weakest part. People are putting down 200-250hp on a stock block without many problems. I've been running 5-7psi for over two years now with zero problems. Check out these two F23 builds. I'm the second one

there's no such thing, you mean 98?

you'll get lots of torque, probably more torque than horsepower with this motor. stock ringlands won't like a lot of power though, so at the very least replace the pistons. the stock rods are thin as hell, replace them too IMHO.

i was actually gonna get a t3 60-1 turbo for this motor and boost like 12 psi +

but with this good info and proof.. im going to save up for pistons and rods first

i would murdered that bottom end.. even tho i can get f23 longblocks for 200 bucks from my local junkyard lol

dam man that turbo spools up quick.. i wasnt expecting it to spool up that quick wow..

did you have to move your brake lines down further? with my f23 swap i had to.. dam Sohc lol

i was told that i had to use the 90-93 f22a1 driver side post with the h22 mount.. but my timing belt would be like 2cm away from the mount.. which one did you use?

what kind of manifold is that?

you have the 2 wire iacv right? mine is 3 wire and i cant figure out how to drop the cell.. i think ima gonna make a plate and put 2 taps and run hoses to my new 2 wire iacv and solve that problem..

is your timing belt far away from the mount or is it close? mine looked alittle to close i didnt wanna mess with it..

thanks for your info man.. you ran a good time for the amount of power your puttin down.. that thing must roast tires for the amount of Tq its making and the rpm the turbo spools at

Yep, Larry's car is just plain nasty. It almost makes me want to ditch my B series roots and come to the darkside.

I ran 20,000 miles on my stock F23a1. This is a dyno at 8-9psi on a Turbonetics T3/T4b before my final tune:

SamIam in this thread https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1069869 caught inspiration from the thread in my sig, and slapped a h22 head on his f23 and made 215whp and 200ish wtq at 6 psi.

last i heard it was holding up fine.

the f23 blocks would do good with a smaller turbo, the motors make all there power in the low end, i wouldn't expect to take a stock turbo f23 any higher than 6700 rpm . with a small turbo and real low end spool you can take advantage of the motors peak efficency range down low.
