Default Vibration in steering wheel

I did a quick search and didn't find anything on this. I know that I am not the only one that has encountered this. What would cause your steering wheel to vibrate at moderate to high speeds? I have a '94 Sol, the wheels and tires are new and have been balanced. The only thing that I can think of is maybe the rubber bushings need to be changed since it is 12 years old now and everything is original on the car, or maybe an alignment issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

it could be an alignment issue, or it could be some kind of runout in the tires, even brand new, some have this problem. which can be corrected if the shop has the right machine to mount and balance the tires. they are made, i have access to one, and two of my tires had that problem. could also be a bad bushing or ball joint.

there are many different factors that could either be the problem or contribute to the problem. any competent shop can diagnose it and fix it right the first time.

Not likely, Alignment does not normally cause vibrations.

If it happens during breaking it it most likely your front rotors that are warped. If it is just during cruising it could either be a suspension issue or one or more of your wheels are out of ballance. This could be because you threw a wieght off or perhaps you have mud or something sticking to the inside of your rim (I have seen this happen). If it is happening during acceleration it could be one of your axles.

alignment will NOT make your car shake if its off. i repeat not. its a myth , it doesnt happen trust me. it will make it pull one way or other , or wear tires off but not shake. impossible. new wheels and tires eh? take it to a reputable shop and i bet you there not balanced properly. alot of places do whats called a static balance, what this does is allow them to correct vibration only putting weights on the inside of the wheel. the proper way is to balance them from the BOLTHOLES , not the center like most shops do , and use stick on weights inside and out. its your wheels dude. and if the shimmy existed before you got your wheels , than most likely its a warped hub.

I agree with the guy above me. My car had major vibration in the steering wheel and in the floor board near the pedals at 45mph-70mph & I took off the big 17's and put on some Honda wheels and now it rides super smooth.

Could be warped rotors, bad axles, bushings like many people have stated, or bad wheel bearings? Just thought I named a feel that made my buddies car vibrate like that. Good luck.

Thanks for all the input, I really appreciate it. The tires are new and so are the wheels, so I'll take it back in and see if they can do better than a static balance and also check out the hubs as well as the axle and all the other components. When I eyeballed it everything looked ok so I'll look a bit harder. Thanks again!

Thats weird, because my steering wheel used to shake like crazy when i would go about 70mph and above, then i got an alignment and now she rides smoother than a babys butt at all speeds... go figure.
