(92-95 Civic Sedan 5-speed)

Well, I was driving down the interstate today on my way home from work and I hear a loud pow, clank, pop! and I look out my rear window and see a bolt flying through the air. I pull over and check my engine bay and my lower ball joints and some other misc. things and I can't see any missing bolts anywhere, so I run back and grab this bolt that I find laying in the middle of the interstate. Here are the pictures of it....any idea where it's from?

It looks to be about a 14mm head. I haven't had a chance to check. There is also some yellow paint on the head of it as well.

it looks like for ur trany or rear suspension.

 

looks like a suspension bolt. the wear marks on the shank look as if it may have been loose.

 

I've looked far and wide, and the only things I have found are missing bolts from my front lower tranny mount (which I don't have on there,so not from there), flywheel cover(again, not on there to begin with), I'm missing an exhaust spring bolt now, but I know that's not it, and there is a missing bolt where, I believe, my factory header was attached, but I have a DC header now, so I think that's what that bolt was from. I dont' see any missing bolts from the tranny or front or rear suspsension, unless I just overlooked something, but I wouldn't think there would be a hidden bolt.

Maybe I just ran over it? My suspspension is so iffy already, that any sound scares the crap out of me. I have bad lower ball joints, and my upper ball joints are coming out of the UCA's.

did it come off your a/c compressor or or power steering unit where it attaches to the block?

The yellow paint is there to indicate it was final-torqued at the factory.

 

I wanna say suspension too but it's not a brake caliper bolt, is it?

half shaft bolt?

 

look at the bolts that attach the L bracket (timing belt side) to the block happend to my friend

 

that's not a rear lca bolt, those have a cone like end and lines going down where it's not threaded.

looks like the bolt that holds the shift linkage to the transmission to me

 

i think its a bolt off the tranny case b/c i just put together a b16 tranny and it looks like a case bolt.

 

a/c bracket bolt would be my guess. only ones ive seen with the tip like that, also double for a good shift linkage bitchpin punch.

maybe u just dropped it in ur bay while working on it. I know Ive had a couple dissappearing bolts... thats crazy you saw it though!

I might check the shift linkage then. I've checked everything else listed, and no luck.

 

Engine mounts? I remember some of them have yellow marks too, I don't even remeber if there is any 14mm bolt for the mount

 

My vote is for the A/C unit. Looks just like that.

 

Could be the bolt to your headlight fluid box.

the bolts on mounts are larger.

 

so you were driving along heard the band and actually saw the bolt flying out the back on the freeway. i seriously dont believe that. it just sounds to crazy.

i mean you were probably going like 60-75, by the time it bounced up high enough to be seen from a mirror it would to small to be recognized.

Anyways my turn to guess! LOL

maybe its not your bolt, maybe it was in the road and you hit it causing to be hit the underside of your car....

or

a bolt that was dropped while working on your car

It is your altenator bolt; it looks exactly the same.
This bolt is used to maintain tension for the bracket that hold the altenator in place.
Right next to the oil filter


Happened to me!!!

I drove with a loose belt for a week b4 i noticed; when i put the car on a lift for an oil change and brake job i noticed the bolt holding the altenator in place was missing,
however the altenator was still in there working just fine; just a little loose.

The bracket that holds it in place was snug enough to hold it for a while.

I'm surprised i didnt notice it was missing earlier since the bolt was flying around under the hood while i was driving.




Slip it back in and use "red thread locker"(its called lock-tite) this time. Its a good 1.19$ investment that will save u headaches down the road with shift ***** and oil plugs too

I apologize for my sucky help... But regardless, when one says "It looks like a _________ to me", are they ever really wrong? Maybe we just have perception problems... I apologize for my sucky perception...

And civicseth has yet to tell us where it's from, or even if it's off of his car...

Which Bolt do you think this is? I can't find any other Alternator-related parts at slhondaparts.com, and I've tried almost every section possible... The diagram doesn't show the "Bracket", and I tried looking for this part in other sections... with no luck.

Let us know! This tread has gotten me very curious...
