Common civic Problem???

Well...the other day my cousin noticed that i had a lot of black smoke coming out of my exhaust pipe whenever i downshifted or floored it. From my experience, this has never happened to my car. I'm thinking that my oil rings are wearing out. Any suggestions to the problem?

in addition, I do not feel any dramatic loss in hp

Do a compression and leakdown test to know for sure.
