Default 80mph drop down

what gear and rpm are you guys at when you drop it down at 80 mph because i have a b18a with ys1 tranny and i would like to drop it down to 3rd but i cant so i get smoked alot because my 4th gear dont have no power, but then again im only runnin intake right now do you guys think that header and full exhaust would help my 4th gear

When I drop down to 3rd gear @80mph, I usually tack somewhere around 7800-8000rpms. I have a b16 tranny though, revving to 8400, so I can drop to third at 85 mph if I wanted.

I'm running the b16 cable trans that has the 4.4 final drive. It's out of the 90-91 XSi. I know that some had a little bit longer gears, so that maybe why.

Give that baby some love(and some boost) and you won't have to drop into 3rd on the freeway going 80mph just to pass a lincoln

An engine rebuild will help your 4th gear pull. You will gain more power by freshening up your motor, than any of the basic bolt-ons will get you. What are you trying to accomplish?

hes prob trying to prove something on the street to his buddys........dude get it through your head....upgrading h/e on a motor with 235,000 is almost going backwards. Say you spend around $500 for a cheap header and exhaust.....you could easily get a new b18a shortblock for 700 shipped and have a fresh motor to work with....

Water in your intake is pathetic. Fix that junk. Its probally your headgasket.
Dont race your motor if you want it to last any longer than it has. I bet its on its last leg as it is.

i have a question? why are you starting a race at 80 mph in your stock LS? do you have any suspension work done? if not, i dont suggest you go too much faster in your 15 year old car with 235K on it. not trying to be a smart ***, but the stability of your car should be considered too.

on my ls with a A1 tranny i could drop into 80 and then hit limiter at 85.

my b16 tranny on my ls i would have to drop into 4th because my 3rd topped at 80.

with my poormans ITR with my b16 tranny i can drop at 80 and ride it up to about 94/95....i rev to 8600 though.

to that comment about a ls with intake is gonna get smoke...i laugh at that, and say it just depends on the ls and the weight of the car.

I laughed too. People really do underestimate the LS. I handed a lot of people their asses with my LS. I wish I would have never gone with a b16. I should have done headwork and some cams, and made 170whp, instead of 145 with the b16.
