1998 Triumph Daytona 955i
Pros
More relaxed stance, good sound, good engine
Cons
getting parts from Triumph
Great Sport-touring bike! I say sport touring because it's nowhere near as aggressive as the Ducati hypersport bikes or the Yamaha R1's or Honda RC-51's or GSX-R's. That's not bad!! It's just a different type of sport bike.
It's seating is less race and more cruise, and it's windscreen isn't pressed flat over the tank like the pseudo race bikes. It's a great bike for people over 6 feet tall that want a sport bike. The bike I rode all the time was my roommates. He is 6'3" and around 230 lbs. and loves the bike, it fits him well. I have another friend who also has one, and he is 6'3" 220 lbs. This bike fits them well. I like riding it too, but when I ride I have to put my tip toes on the pedals in order to get my legs up to the gas tank, otherwise my legs squeeze the bike right at the frame which gets very hot.
One of the best features on these bikes is the triple fuel injection. It works like a dream. There is no stupid lever(choke)to mess with when starting either. Just push the start button and it fires right up and idles itself perfectly. The throttle is very responsive and smooth too.
Although these bikes aren't styled as aggressively as other sport bikes, don't interpret that as being slower. These bikes are fast! Very fast! They have tons of torque and put on speed faster than you realize. I have ridden everything from Ducati's, GSX-R's,ZX-7R's,CBR's,R1's to Puch mopeds and the Triumph T595 and 955i's are fast. One time I was merging onto the freeway and I wasn't paying attention to my speed, I was just clicking through the gears and looking over my shoulder at traffic. When I finally merged I looked down at my speedometer and it read 152mph! It honestly felt like I was going maybe 90mph. It's fast!
They handle pretty good too. Once you set the suspension up right you can get pretty aggressive in the turns. It tracks well and handles bumps in turns with little notice. It's also pretty flickable for a somewhat heavy sportbike. It's brakes are awesome! Two fingers is all you need.
I only ran across two problems.
1.) It would take some coaxing to get it into second gear sometimes.
2.) Triumph parts take forever to get in. My roommate laid it down one time and had to replace some of the farings and the turn signals. It took Triumph 4 months to get the majority of the parts and we're still waiting for two more. It's been 6 months total so far.
