Is it wrong?
Is it wrong to own a nice bike like my 600rr, yet yearn to commute on a cheaper bike? I love riding my 600rr, and foresee a long and happy ownership of it... however, my GF is taking an interest in riding, and I am interested in a smaller bike to commute to work on. I used to commute on an EX500 that would average 55-60 mpg, though I have yet to break 45mpg with the 600rr. I have considered buying another EX500, or even the Ninja 250 for commuting as well as to have a bike that my GF could potentially ride (assuming she is geared, and has taken the MSF course
).
So, is it wrong to own a crappy bike for commuting?

Why?
Any money you save on gas mileage is negated by the cost of another bike. Commute on your RR, I do it. If you really want another bike for your girl then I guess it might make some sense but then you have to commute on a very less capable bike. Where's the fun in that.

It's just riding to work, for ***** sake.

Q: Is it wrong to secretly love the bike more than the girl?
A: No, i do it all the time.
by the time you pay insurance and cover the cost of the other bike unless there is a second rider for it its not really going to be any cheaper. the difference between 45 and 55 mpg isn't like going from a car with 15 to a car with 25.

Whats the point of buying another bike just for commuting though. I bought my bike to ride, whether its commute or canyon carving.

I don't see anything wrong with wanting a crappier bike. It's nice to be able to toss the keys to your buddies and not worry about the bike. There's more to life than all out speed, I'd love a modern sportbike, but not if it meant I'd have to give up my poopy little CB-400.

I think it's ok.
I plan on keeping my Shadow for local around town riding and I want to get another cruiser (1500cc's+) for touring. My Shadow feels like it wants to blow up at 70+.
