Removing Shocks, Quick Question
Alright I got a question. I just used some pb blaster and a really ghetto breaker bar to get my bolts loose in the rear lower control arm that goes through the shock. The bolts in the middle of each control arm are now broken loose, and the bolts that go through the subframe on each arm is loose too. The only bolt i could not get broken loose is the one that goes through the brake assembly on both arms. My question is, and sorry if it's stupid, Is it possible to take off the rear shock without removing the bolts on the end that go through the brakes? I finally got these bolts through the shocks loose and i really want to get my tein springs on there. Thanks in advance.
do you have stock springs still on? i can tell you how to pull the strut off with only removing the 1 bolf on the bottom, but if you have the stock springs then it cant be done cuz u wont be able to compress the spring completely.
i'm not sure about the stock springs, but that's how i swap mine out. just push the lca out of the subframe and down and take the shock out diagonally. to get them back in you might want to jack up the lca to make it easier.
you have to get a spring compressor for the stock springs before you remove the top hat from the shock (after it's out of the car). if you don't compress it, it will fly off and is actually pretty dangerous. there's ghetto things you can do to stop it, but just go rent one for free.

What my friend did when the spring compressor didn't fit into the stock spring was take a bucket and lay it sideways. Lay down the strut and face the top hat toward the bucket. Get a allen wrench a box wrench and loosen the bolt. Make sure your feet is holding the spring down. When you loosen it the top nut and washers will fly into the bucket while the strut will fly 5 feet backwards. This is a good way to do it if you dont have a spring compressor.
alright thanks. .i just wanted to know if it will come out without taking out the bolt on the end that goes through the brakes. I took it to a shop today and they ended up breaking the head of that bolt and had to weld a nut on the other end to remove it. So now i've got a shiny new LCA on the right side and a stock black LCA on the left lol. I guess i should be fine now i'll have to take the springs out diagonally and take the car back to the shop to put the left LCA on next week. Thanks!
