Default EF's with B18c....

Aye, wondering what you kats with GSR's are doing to run them...wich ecu are you guys running? Are you rewiring for OBD ecu and or not caring about the 2nd butterfly? I want to drop a GSR into the hatch but need to know whats all needed...any help would be great.

I've got a 95 B18C1 in my 91HB. I'm using HASport mounts, Y1 tranny, 90 Integra axles and intermediate shaft. Originally I was going to convert the car to OBD1 and run a Mugen or Skunk2 chipped P28. I blew up my stock motor before I could get all my parts in so I worked with the stuff out of my old B16 CRX.

I'm using a ZDYNE 91 Civic/CRX Si ECU with the stock B16 program, 90 Integra distributor, OBD0 91 Civic Si injectors, 95 GSR fuel rail and a Skunk2 intake manifold.

The car runs a tad lean (B16 program, 12 year old fuel pump). That will soon be helped with an adjustable FPR and VAFC. It's not dangerously lean (knock on wood)..the car runs great but I think it would benefit from a 1.8 liter ecu. Oh well..it's doing fine for now.

HTH,
Aaron

vafc only leans out doesnt richen. how weird was the wiring on that swap? im planning on doing a b18c1 turbo in a si hatch this summer. swap will go fine mi just concerned w/ obd conversions etc.

i *think* this works:
si engine harness -> obd0 to obd1 conversion harness -> p28 ecu

is my understanding of this correct?
also thought post 97 (or something dunno exactly) gsrs were obd2. thats sounds like and even bigger mess

Actually tortex, a vafc can richen or lean out your fuel settings.

eh? thought it only leaned. how would it richen? it would have to dcreese coltage coming out of o2 sensor. its my understanding its one wire leading to it that increases voltage tricking ecu into thinking its running more rich than what it is.

Ok see thats what I figured...now seems like a PR3 ecu piggy-backed with a VAFC would work fine but Im still concerned with that secondary butterfly,,,I mean like...can always get rid of it and or go with a Skunk2 manifold....cause I dont want to go through the wiring hassle of converting to OBD1...besides all that bs...hows the motor run in that chassi? Traction problems? what kind of times are you pull'n? You guys info is appreciated, thanxs

I didn't even mess with that dual butterfly crap. I put a Skunk2 on before the motor went in the car. The engine is awesome though..worth every penny. I had a B16 in a gutted CRX before and the GSR in my portly hatchback just works that thing under the table. The extra displacement and torque make the car much more fun to drive.

About the OBD1 crud, a friend of mine is on the verge of putting his built B20VTEC into his 89 CRX. He's going to use Blown90Hatch's conversion harness and a chipped P28. We're shooting for 200whp NA at the very least..I'll let you know how the wiring goes.

I definately have straight-line traction problems. With 205/40/17 Kumho 712s at 44psi, full interior, 4pt roll bar, a bunch of tools in the hatch, full retarded distributor timing I ran a 9.8 @ 76 in the 1/8th. That time is not at all impressive but I was spinning a lot (I suck a drag racing, what can I say? )

How much does blownhatch ask for his conversion harness? also does it come out clean? cause actually it would be pretty nice to be able to run an obd1 ecue, a lil more to play with than the PR3....but I think im gonna bypass the gsr intake manifold and go with the Skunk2. thanxs for the info guys

Actually the vafc doesn't connect to an o2 sensor it connects to the map, and it'll let you increase or decrease the pressure the map sees. And when you increase the pressure it will richen the fuel mixture to compensate and when you decrease the pressure it will lean out the fuel the same way.

dont even worry about using the secondary butterfly ecu, because its a tight fit, and makes wiring a bitch.

I just got home from running a 2.383 60ft and a 9.7 @ 74. Like I said, I suck at drag racing.

The easiest thing to do would be to use a Skunk2 manifold. If you run a different ecu and want the secondary butterflies, you could wire it up to a rpm switch like some people do with the VTEC solenoid. I personally like the mid range torque they provide and kept my stock manifold but I also have the motor in my 92 VX so using the P72 ecu wasn't a problem.

That harness rocks. I got mine during a group buy, but it is still worth the $150 for a single harness.
