Help me build a nice street/strip SOHC Turbo
Well I've finally made up my mind to boost my D16Z6 in my 92 CX Hatch. Ive had the swap in the car for about 3 years now and its time for boost. Im wanting to spend around 3k for the entire setup. Im planning on have the head reworked with a 3 angle valve job. Also thinking about putting in a set of pistons, rods. BLock will remain stock NO SLEEVES. So im looking for some of you turbo GURUS to help me build a turbo setup that will not have me looking to buy a new setup in a short amount of time. I want to do this once and be satisfied if that is at all possible. So if I could get some helpful insight I would greatly apreciate it. Ive searched around HT, TUrboD16, HMT and a few other sites. I know what is involved in turboing the car just need help deciding what will work the best and in my price range. Best bang for the buck but not a cheap setup. I am planning on doing all the work myself minus the machine work.
Thanks for the Help,
Chris

(dont get anything ssautocrome).. get a cheap log manifold(200)... precisions sc-61(550), 750cc injectors(275), walboro 255hp(160), fpr(100), fuel rail(100), pistons 9.1 comp(arias)(cheap cheap)(350), eagle rods(400), valve springs(100), retainers(150), chipped crome pro ecu(200), msd dizzy(150), blaster coil(35), wires(30), msd digital 6(300), tuning(3-500), engine assembly(600)(with balanced crank), wategate (250), bov(100), downpipe and exhust (500)....
so why dont you tell us what you want?
horsepower expectations? street use? track use? both?
you told us your budget.. and if you want to rebuilt your engine and get a good kit.. it might be a little tight.. but it is definately do-able.
srp make good pistons for their price, imo.
And don't buy an ebay kit!

This will be a daily driver/weekend drag car. I just want a good dependable 250+ whp. I know its gonna be tight on my budget but I need help trying to figure out the best bang for the buck setup. Im not gonna get any ebay junk. I want to piece a kit together that would be able to produce more hp with more internal work done on the engine.

im gonna be boost my d16z6 here in a couple of weeks. im gonna run a t3/t4 .48 hot side w a 50 trim compressor wheel. ive heard that this is a good turbo for a sohc. seen some built motors w this turbo w low 400whp.
dsm 450cc injectors, hondata s300, aem fpr, equal length custom mani for ac and ps, tial external wg, hks ssq bov, 26x6x3 ic, hoping for around 250whp on stock block daily driven.

For 250whp... i'd stay stock block, but for anything more i'd build the engine. A plain T3 .48/60 can achieve 250whp with a great powerband, but if you want something expensive and well worth the money for 300whp i'd get a GT28RS
i agree...250whp on a stock motor is not going to last lol...for 3k you could easily drop pistons and rods in a otherwise stock motor with a t3/t4, log mani, 3" downpipe, 2.5"ic piping, fmic (something thats good for 350hp or so) 750cc injectors, bov, wastegate, mbc, clutch, slicks....i would also suggest tuning yourself if you feel capable....for the money youll spend on a tune you can buy all teh equipment to do it youself.
ive built a setup (just as ive described above) for around 3k, its daily drivin (93 4dr) and runs high 12's at the moment (on 12psi) looking for low 12's high 11's this weekend, on 20+psi
deffinetly do-able...just do your homework and spend your money in the right places.

please dont get an sc61 for a 250whp street d16z6, its way to big youd hate it.
motorwork:
pistons.rods
headstuds
zex 59300
you need a clutch too
turbo
t3 60 trim or maybe a t3t4 50 trim. get the .48 turbine regardless for decent spool
i/c
3" dp and at least 2.5 exhaust
the other usual turbo parts
make sure you get a decent tune/management
buy at least 450cc injectors. with a built motor, you will be able to handle much more than 250whp and will probably get the urge to up the boost in the future
sorry im not more help, im tired. check out http://www.turbod16.com if you want. i have a bunch of stuff on my old z6 turbo if you search my name in the forced induction archives

Rods- Eagle
Pistons- SRP or whatever you can find cheap in the classifieds
Manifold- Log, or whatever blingage you're looking for.
Turbo- T3 super 60 or T3/T4 50 trim
Clutch- 6 puck sprung or unsprung (lsdmotorsports is what I've used and liked)
Charge piping- weld it up yourself
450cc injectors- new costs money, and dsm's are fun.
Oil lines- There's a couple places to get em.
ARP headstuds
crome chipped ecu- (xenocron.com is what I've used and liked)
Intercooler- JRC, Custom Coach, ect. (NO chinese or ebay ****) the cores don't do ish
Blow off- 1 gen DSM or whatever psychadelic sounding one you like
Boost and oil pressure gauges
Downpipe- weld it up with your charge piping
Add $350 to keep your A/C. Even if it doesn't cost that much, still throw the money away. Boost and A/C don't go together. It's like scrawny kids and weight lifting.

-Tial wastegate
-Boost controller of your choice
-Turbo Timer (not needed, but useful)
-PLX m-300 or wideband of your choice
