VTEC= High idle untill warmed up???
1994 Civic DX stock D15B7,Manual trans, ring wer bad, I put in a JDM D15B Vtec.
Didnt wire Vtec up at the time, didnt have VTec ECU or plugs, so used the stock D15B7 ECu for the longest time.
Recently I finally got a 1994 Honda del sol D16z6 Vtec Automatic ECU (p28 auto)
Yes you can put an auto ecu in a manual trans car.
Put it in didnt run VTEC YET, and it started up fine, juts got 3 codes, 2 for Vtec and 1 for automatic lock up sylenoid.
I then wire Vtec up, Start it and the car idels HIGH!! Really high, I then adjust the throttle screw to the lowest itll go, its still kinda high.
After about 5 minuts the idle will go down.
I am unfamiliar with Vtec so mabey someone could knowlage me on why it does this?
I assume the idle is high due to VTEC needing to be warmed up?
Car still drives fine, I am curiouse of why when I wired VTEC up, the idle is CRAZY high now untill warmed up.

please dont FLAME me here, I am simply a Noob, I am unaware of VTEC. it is a simple post asking why when VTEC is wired up the RPMS are HIGH at Idle?

I don't know exactly if this answers your question but most cars idle high, at start up....... what exactly are your rpms?

my B16 idles at 1500-2000 when i start it. 2500 during winter. Its not because of VTEC its just so the engine warms up. I know it doesnt answer ur question, but just to give you background info.

damn 2500 in winter time frig, do you have to give gas out of first or no?

thanks for the info ,
no, reason why I ask, BEFORE I wored VTEC up, I put the VTEC ecu in started it( to test the ECU) and it started, idled fine as it did before. I now then turn the car off, Wire VTEC up to the ECU, put the plugs in and recet the ECU by pulling the Fuse for 10 minuts, I now start the car, and the Idle is CRAZY high. Kinda weird huh?
Vtec no wired up, idle fine, Vtec wired up, idle HIGH untill warmed up.
and no, I don't have a tach, but Id say the idle is about 2,000 RPMS mabey 2500 untill warmed up then drops to 1000 or 1200

up, i mean, the idle is hellas HIGH when I start the car, I wanna say it jumps to 2500 RPMS, itll slowly go down as the car warms up.........

YOU SHOULD CHECK YOUR FITV valve cause that can cause it to be high reving....my car use to idle up to 2.5k and now its at 1k to 900....you should take it off which is located under the TB and check to see if the spring is out all the way...if it is then screw it almost all the way back in...but before you do that you are suppose to open the back up with a 8mm wrench or a 4 head screwdriver....it easier to take off the TB cause it will hang with it and all you got to do is screw it out! it not you should clean the iacv behind the IM and double check the rubber gasket in the iacv just incase it leaks air!.....hopefully it helps!
