Default Rebuilding foam in seats

Hey guys, lately the seats on my crx(91 si) have been getting worse and worse. Fortunately the cloth hasn't ripped, but the foam on the drivers side seat is soft. The foam is lumpy and i always see little pieces of the yellow foam on my carpet every couple of weeks when i vacuum my interior, mainly around the left thigh support.

I've already searched for about 30 mintes or so looking for a solution, and came up with a couple threads.... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=855711 and https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=617679 These threads, and the other threads i've looked at never gave me an answer i was looking for. Now i know i saw a couple months ago, someone redid the foam on his seat, and even had a whole diy tutorial on it. If anyone could find that it'd be greatly appreciated

Also, can anyone help me out with pics if you redid your foam? Or could you tell me the materials you got, and the cost of all supplies? I really would like to keep the stock seats, but if it is going to cost more to redo the foam, then I'd rather get a different seat. TIA

I was also curious about this. I have the exact same problem with my driver's side CRX seat. I also have a set of Civic Si seats I'm using on my deck right now (sitting in one while typing this!), the driver's side upper bolster has a crater in it, but the lower is fine, and the passenger seat is mint. I was going to transplant the foam to my CRX seat, but nobody can tell me if they are the same.

i think you'd be sweet as with swapping the foam over, if not you can always buy foam and spend ages moulding it ang gluing it into your side bolster carefully. An upholsterer will charge you an arm an a leg for the job to be done.

i bought a set of si seats for my crx. needless to say they had the same problems as yours. what i did was swap the foam from my old passengers side seat to the new drivers seat. it wasnt that hard you just have to cut all the old hog rings off, slide the seat cover off, slide new foam on and put new hog rings on. its alot easier than it seems. trickiest part is taking the foam off the top of the old seat and replacing the old hog rings is a must.

They are not the same. CRX Si and Civic Si seats are completely different.

You don't have to cut the hog rings off. Just pull on them with a pliers so you can reuse them.

I have heard of using passenger on driver side before. I would think it would work fine.

thanks for the replies guys Unfortunately i dont have an extra crx seat to swap the foam over to. Unless i want to take the foam from my passenger seat, which is mint, but i still want my passengers to be fairly comfortable, and supported. I guess i'll start looking for some foam and try to trim it and glue it to match.

Btw, does anyone remember a tutorial with pics about rebuilding the foam?

How different are they? They look fairly similar, though the CRX seats feel a little slimmer, that could just be the way they're worn. Anyway I was thinking more like taking the bolsters off the civic foam and using an adhesive to patch my bad sections on the CRX seat.

Just so everybody knows, As Targa says, the seat cushions for the CRX Si & Civic Si are totaly different shapes. A new cushion for the Civic Si seat bottom is $25 at majestic, and one for a CRX is something like $330. WTF?!?!

I swapped my seatback foams, and that works great (only slight trimming of one tiny corner required). I didn't do the seat bottoms, and I kinda wish I had. The bottoms however, are not nearly as symetrical from left to right. It would be much more of a PITA to swap the bottoms (seatbelt latch makes a big difference)...

After seeing this, I may go that rout...

Yeah that website has lots of helpful stuff for our cars. Was just kinda lucky that I read both that and this post on the same day.

Let us know how it goes guys.
