Which Path?
I recently won a joint custody court battle and I have to commute 30 miles each way to pick and drop off my son every week and an additional 2 times per month. This 30 mile path goes over a mountain with an elevation of about 5000K and for about 5 miles. My question is this:
Should I take this path which is shorter or should I go around the mountain through the interstate at 50 Miles each way. My concern is the car. I want to minnimize the wear and tear on all the parts possible. I know the mountain path is harder on the car but is there something I can do to minnimize this, like transmission fluid cooler or oil cooler and what gear should I use when going up and down the mountain. My car is currently at 111,000 Miles and runs smooth as silk. Any help would be appreciated.

please tell me your kidding?....this isnt a transportation forum this is an accord forum..for people who have questions about things on their cars...not about how to get to a certain point the best way.....posts like this make me as mad as a legless ethiopian watching a donut roll down a hill
Wait a minnute I am asking about my car (a 99 accord). I want to prevent excessive wear and I honestly don't know which path would be less damaging. If I had a Ford Expedition I wouldn't be as concerned. So I think this question is appropriate to the care of my Honda Accord. I apologize if I offend you.
you could add some coolers which could be cheaper and better on the car, or you could drive the extra mileage, but you might just want to install the coolers and call it a day. And if auto i'd say d3 the whole way up, maybe even d2 for anything very steep. d3 should be fine, you just don't want to be in overdrive going up a steep hill.
didnt offend me but you really shouldnt worry about your tires wearing down on the way there...either way ur tires are gonna start lossing tread because of the mileage you will be putting on them...Just go the easiest way and stick it in d3 on most parts
