PLEASE HELP OVER HEATING
i have a 1997 GS and i am over heating and its acting weird one time it will be fine then it will jump all the way to red then jump back to mid heat then cool i have a very good idea what it is but can people give me ideas on what they think it might be?
well whats your very good idea?
by the sounds of it i figure it could be your fan not turning on, explaining why it possibly goes down when your driving and it air cools.
but when does it go down? and when does it go up? if you left the car at idle, does it do it then? do the fans ever turn on if you let it idle?

If it's quick, it almost sounds like a problem with the gauge.</TD></TR></TABLE> no it is overheating trust me just had my car detailed and driving home from work on the highway i got fluid all over my hood

your radiator is leaking badly if the coolant is all over your hood. i went thru the same thing recently. check your fluid level and if its dry, replace the rad, rad cap, hoses and thermostat all at once. its pretty simple and not too expensive. i got an OEM replacement from http://www.radiatorexpress.com for like 95 shipped.

Yeah but you said it wasnt using any coolant... anyway thermostat and do a coolant flush and you should be good. Theres other things that you could have tested prior to shotgunning it with parts but if it fixes it then sweet.

A reason why it could jump is exhaust gases are passing by and causing it to heat up, this would mean you have a crack somewhere, hope its not that, because that is what happened to me.... i had to get a new engine...
