So I pulled my trans last night, split it open, and was proceeding to swap some gears out. Cleaning off a second gear, the brake cleaner bounced off the ear teeth and came over the top of my safety glasses landing in my eye. I ripped off my gloves, ran inside and started rinsing my eye out. I washed my hands after rinsing for a minutre or two and took my contact out, then rinsed some more. My parents took me to the ER where they flushed my eye out. Went to the optomologist (?) today and he said I have staining on my cornea so I have to use some eye drops 4 times a day and I should be better on Wednesday. Scared the **** out of me since that is how my dad lost his vision (brake cleaner + diesel fuel).
So for everyone that has basic glasses, get some with top protection. If you're not wearing any, then go buy a pair.

If my vision check on Wednesday turns out good then I won't be too worried. My dads vision check he got the day after his accident was bad. But he didn't get to wash his eyes out (dealership he was at that day did not have an eye washer).
That sucks dude, I had 15% bleach( clorox is 2.5%) get in my eye and I went through 4 bottles of eyewash and still couldnt stop the pain. The ER gave me the emergency eywash which also hurt like hell, but at least we still have our vision!

And you tease me for wearing my safety glasses
I'm always nervous about vision, because you just can't get it back. Walking & seeing are kind of important with this hobby
I'm just amazed this insight (no pun intended) is coming from Chris... The main difference between silliness & enjoyment is the realization that physical capabilities CAN be lost forever. "Deep thoughts from BudMan"

ER eyewash is weird. They numb your eye then put this contact type thing on it. You close your eye around it and then the fluid starts flowing.
holy sh*t! i was just drilling metal yesterday and i was almost too lazy to grab my safety glasses..yikes, after your story, i wont be lazy anymore! hope your eye is okay

After what happened to my dad I take my vision seriously. Really sucked that I worked my *** off to graduate with my class and he couldn't see me walking across the stage to get my diploma. I don't want to end up in his shoes. Especially since driving is the only thing to get my mind off of stuff.

yeah that eyewash thing with the contact lens with a hose connected to it was awkward. The biggest contact ive ever seen! That numbing stuff only lasted about 10 seconds before i wanted to rip my eye out again!
Took a shot of brake parts cleaner to the eye as well, but luckily (?) I had contacts in. Snagged the lens out in about half a second, then soaked my eye but good.
Amazingly it didn't hurt a bit, because the contact lens took the brunt of it. I was just lucky to get the lens out before bad things happened.
