Default Hit-Air, airbag for motorcycles.

http://www.hit-air.com/english/main.html

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Hit-Air website &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">The "Hit Air" jacket uses CE certified armor to protect the shoulders, elbows and the spine but most importantly, the "Hit Air" jacket also incorporates an air cushion system. In the event of an accident and a rider is thrown from the motorcycle, the air cushion instantly inflates (within 1/2 second) to protect the rider's body. Activation is simple and automatic. A coiled wire is attached to both the motorcycle and the jacket. Once the rider and the motorcycle are separated, the coiled wire pulls a "key" out of a gas release system and inert gas inflates the air cushion. The inflated jacket provides the necessary impact protection. After a few seconds the gas is automatically released through the gas release valve.</TD></TR></TABLE>

Apparantly, this has been out for quite a while. Anybody have experience with this or a similar system?

If a rider forgets to remove the coiled wire when getting off the motorcycle, will the airbag accidentally activate and inflate?

A force of up to 30 kg. (66 lbs.) is required to detach the key and to activate the airbag. The dismounting rider will feel a strong tug well before deployment. In fact a small motorcycle or scooter may topple over if the rider forgets to release the coiled wire before dismounting.

Great... so you end up pulling your bike over 'cause you forgot to unclip.

1/2 second may seem fast, but what about the car that pulls out in front of you, and you get flung into their door? I don't think 1/2 second is fast enough.

The likely killer in this situation is head injury so this wouldn't really protect you anyway, even with faster inflation.

The inflation zone on that particular product seems to only be in the back. A lot of injuries and deaths come from crushing chest injuries, which this wouldn't protect against. I have seen similar jackets/vests that inflate all around the upper body which would probably be a better investment.

Well, I was just wondering if anyone has tried any of these things out - regardless of what brand they are?

Alpinestars was developing something like that a while back. I don't know if it ever made it into production though.

Dainese has been researching this for a while. I'd wait for the technology to be out longer and more refined before ever thinking about getting one. So for now, good armored leather is the way to go.

Could anyone find prices on that site, or links to dealers?

I think I may be retarded, either that or I can't think straight from 12 hours of straight studying.

Edit: ranging from 450-700 at least at a random *** site

Why not a jet-pack attached jacket to shoot u up into the air upon impact? Then you can glide back down via the parachute. That's a much better investment.
