'94 RS 184,000 KM's

I was at the auto-x yesterday and did a couple of runs. After one of them, (I stayed in 2nd gear for the whole run), I exited the stop box and at around 1500 RPM and again around 2500 - 3000 RPM, I'm getting what sounds like a chatter or very loud tick. Now I've searched for the symptoms of a bent valve, and it doesn't seem like those. I was low on oil by 1 quart, topped it up and the ticking is still there.

I've got full power, no smoke out the exhaust. I'm going to be doing a compression test within a couple of days. But I'm sure that it will come back ok.

Can any of you guys think what the problem may be?

same problem here. could find the exact symptom, but i was told it was the head. no bent valves and compression is still good. so im just switchin over a new head.
