Run premium if you want it to last. If you go with **** water it "might" run fine as long as you drive normally, but is it really worth it to take that risk?

Thanks for the reply, I guess its definitely worth the 5 dollars extra every fill to save your engine.

how does it matter? I don't see...the 95 engine was designed to run on 87, how does the turbo affect it?

is the engine itself stock or modified? if internals are stock, higher octane = knock reduction, b/c of high performance i say you just be smart about it and employ the high octane. if you wanna play with the big boys, make sure you fit in all around :-D

higher octane less chance of detonation
detonation is expensive on a boosted car

It's an extra $3 max @ each fill up. Stay out of boost and it'll last longer.

Depends what the car was tuned to. Most likely it's tuned for 91 octane since that's what he's running. I wouldn't go less unless you want it retuned...

mid grade is running 3.31 - 3.45 right now.

When I can I just take my mom's costco card and get the 91 octane for a couple cents cheaper than chevron 89

stick with 91 octane, or your motor will feel the wrath of low octane.

Sorry to thread jack...

But if I have a car tuned on 91, is it safe to go up? I figure tune 91, and then I can use 91 or 93 depending on what the gas station has.

i dont have turbo in my B16, but I always use 91 (the highest here in Quebec). Im a student too, but 3 bucks more per fill wont kill you.

Thats half the price of a pint of beer anyways.

gas here in NC is $2.98 for premium and I am going boost soon on my Z6. I fill up every 200 miles though and it costs me $23 on mid grade (10.7:1 CR on my donor motor) so its so-so but once i go boost i know i will be racing my own shadow all the time. lol

here's the deal....

As it is, run 91 because it is safer

When you tune it CORRECTLY then you can run 89 if you set it up that way
but the cost of tuning probably equals the extra money you'll be paying for 91 for a year

If you have enough money to get a turbo car then you have enough money to get premium.
