Default highway stalling 60+ mph

car: 1996 si h23a3 stock except for weapon r intake

My car has recently started stalling on highway and basically any fast speed city driving after about 10-15 min or so from start-up. Injectors have less then 30k miles on them, new spark plugs, and ~35k on engine. After stalling the car starts right back up after a 5 min break. I was thinking alternator or fuel filter but i was hoping someone could help me out. TIA

First off, is the engine throwing any codes? its hard to pinpoint without driving the car in person or without codes, also, have you changed the fuel filter ever? 35k is well over the time to get the puppy changed. Since its quick, easy, and needs to be done anyways, i would start there. I do highly doubt its the injectors, 35k is way to soon for any injectors to go bad *unless you drive a ford! hehe j/k* so I would rule those out for now.

with all said and done, if the filter doesnt help you out, I would say it sounds like a bad Fuel pump to me, as the pump heats up from 15+ minutes of driving the resistants on the pump goes up, causing it to pump less fuel. So as you gun it in the city, the O2 sensor picks up a lean signal, tells the pump to compensate by dumping more fuel, but since the pump is weak it cant compensate as much and you get stalling.

Hope it helps, if you have any engine codes be sure to post them ^^

well if it only stalls after the engine is warmed up then it's most likely an engine control problem like something to do with a sensor. its obviously not the alternator because it starts up after it stalls. i also wouldnt suspect the fuel filter being partially plugged becuase when your cruising at 60 mph you really arent using much fuel. a partially plugged fuel filter would result in loss of power or surging while trying to accelerate. one thing i have found is that when people put those "cold air intakes" on thier engine that it causes some strange problems. the air filter usually becomes so plugged with debris that it can restrict the airflow enough to cause problems. also the "high flow" filters will have a tendency to allow dirt and stuff to accumulate on the MAF sensor inside the intake insulating it resulting in a lower than normal airflow reading. if your car does have a maf sensor i would suggest removing it and inspecting it to make sure its clean. if it is dirty be very careful when cleaning it. and then put your stock intake back on. other than that i dont really have any other ideas. uhm...when it stalls does it sound like its loosing spark or fuel? if it instantly cuts out and dies i would suspect the ignition system. if it slowly looses power or chugs and then stalls i would suspect the fuel delivery system and the inputs to that system.

yeah the fuel pump is a possibility but i wouldnt doubt it. hmm...if the fuel pump is in the tank its really easy to test becuase if you fill your fuel tank up all the way the fuel will keep the pump cooled down and it shouldnt stall. once again however, the fuel pump doesnt need to pump very much fuel when your cruising at 60 mph so its not like theres a whole lot of strain on it.

thanks alot for the help guys. I will def replace the fuel filter. And no the car is not throwing any codes sorry about that. And i will never make the mistake again of buying a ford so u can rule that out too (ugh memories of contour )

I recently swapped from a blown h23a1 to h23a3 with a friend, about 6 months ago, so it is very possible that we installed knock sensor or something incorrectly.

My car did this when the Ignitor went out, also check the main relay. Same exact symptoms. I got lots of practice pushing the car around town.... Get ready because if its the same problem it will eventually stop starting back up.
