fresh motor is leaking oil.
i have brand new ls/vtec motor. we just got done with putting everything in the car. i have a b16a1 head/ b18a1 block. we started the car then turned it off b/c oil was leaking(pretty good amount). the oil is coming out at the back of the head from around the headgasket, on the side next to the cam gears. i have ge headgasket and arp head studs. does anyone have any suggestions on what could be the prob. or if anyone has had this prob b4?
i called ge and they said the have used that headgasket for 5 years no problems, should i be using a b16 or ls headgasket? what is the trq specs we called arp and they said 70lbs so thats what we did. and the hg was in the up position when we put it one.
was the deck and the surface of the head totally free of any deep sctratches? deep ones could provide a path for the oil to escape
it should not be a problem with the gasket unless you put it on wrong because golden eagle takes all the necessary steps for you by eliminating o-rings on the gasket that would create and improper seal

i think the head was clear on deck and scratchs. should i have used and ls or b16 head gasket? b/c golden eagle sent me the b16. i didnt know if that had anything to do w/ it.

No you shouldn't. An ls headgasket doesn't have same oil holes as a vtec headgasket does.
If it is leaking a ton of oil when started between the block and head, you put the headgasket on upside down. It is a common mistake if you aren't paying attention because it will bolt down just perfectly regardless of whether it is right side up or not. You will only find out that you put it on wrong when you try and start the car and it starts gushing oil.

I would say its the head gasket too. Use a LS Head gasket next time. None of my homies have ever used a b16 head gasket on a LS/Vtec swap. Even on b20/Vtec swaps we used the b20 head gasket. Allso check the cam seals because sometimes you might think its coming from the head gasket but it is actually coming from the cam seals and building up all over where the head meets the block. Good Luck though!!!!

make sure the oil isn't running down the head. If the cam seals are not put it "straight" they will back out fairly easily and leak allot of oil quickly.

Is there more then just the one you plug, and reroute the oil?

the head work was done by autolabz in alabama. and when we went to but everything together both the head and block was clear and even. i had the block decked here at a place in tenn. so today i am goin to order a cometic gasket. they base their gasket off an ls headgasket, and b/c of name and rep. i will be more happy to get one from them.
