I'm thinking about buying a ls teg, the tranny has a 3rd gear grind. curious about the commonness of this problem and the easy of fixing it.
the ls tranny is a solid tranny. small grinds can usually be helped with some lucas syncromesh tranny fluid. it helped my talon and my honda with grinds. try it out before you swap trannys

he said it was the synchro and the part would cost about 150. i trust him for the most part since i've known him for a while now.
it only grinds on upshifts. downshifts it's smooth.

Problem with the tranny being in the car is that you have to take it out to do any work. The part may only be 150 bucks, but the labor is going to kill you in the end. It might be cheaper to just switch trannys. Have you ever though about getting a B16 or GSR tranny?
You really should think about swapping in b16 tranny if you are wanting the car for speed. It takes about a half second of the quarter mile, Based on a few teggies I have seen around here.
