Default without AC, how do you survive?

For those of you who do not have AC. As a daily driver, what do you do on a rainy foggy day? All the windows fog up within seconds, and nothing help. Can't open the windows because of the rain. What do you do?

I just ripped out my A/C. I have a question I probably should have asked before I did it:

Does the defog/defrost work just as effective in a car with a/c off then a car with no a/c?

I never used the a/c to defog, and it was bearable in a hard rain. Will it be the same?

Mine is not a daily driver but I have driven it in the rain. Vents pointed at side windows, blower motor on high, work fine, no problems. If I lived in Seattle it might be a problem. The hot humid days are the problem. Everytime I think about a/c I picture this heavy *** box in my basement with all of the a/c components and I feel better that the weight is not in my car

How heavy was that box. I'm thinking about removing it after the summer......

I just weighed it on my trusty "certified" bathroom scale: 39pds of a/c equipment. Lines, compressor, condensor, wiring, brackets.......everything except the Evaporator behind the dash.

You left the evaporator in the car? How hard is it to remove that?
Did you let the gasses escape just in the atmosphere? That's not completely legal and healthy for us you know.....

I put my mouth over the line and inhaled j/k I worked at a dealer at the time and had a tech evac the system.......all good and legal. I just looked again at the evaporator yesterday, I don't know how hard it is but its not something I feel like doing yet.

Defrost
Fan on 2
Heat on medium

I've never really had a problem. Early recognition and fast responce is the key.

Just use the defroster and set the temp around medium. Blast as strong as you'd like.

That is an engine mount.......I would highly recommend you do not remove it.

How much does a removed AC system weigh? Ive always wondered why folks take $500 of their resale value off the car... for what 30 pounds, maybe?

Hybrid / track cars I can understand, but AC is critical in some places, I sure missed it in a 91 CRX Si in El Paso, TX summer... and enough Type R buyers added it as a dealer installed option in the US in 97-98 that it came standard in 00-01

Until my R is no longer a daily driver I'm going to have to keep the AC....summers reach 125 degrees here in AZ and it just gets too hot for longer road trips. Back east if you had no AC in the rain, the defroster on full blast and the temp set in the middle would usually take care of it.....you could always get some of those plastic window gutter thingies that allow you to take your window down while its raining...I believe there was a post about them yesterday.

It's a must for the dirty south & FL.

Imagine 120+ deg in-car temp + 100% humidity... sure, you can get by, but your car will stink like your armpit! Not worth the trouble unless it's your track car.

Anyone know the part number for the bridge to replace the evap with? I really want to get that thing out of my dash.

DD for almost three years now and 45K miles. Trick is early detection and action to keep it from getting too bad. I've also had some good luck with Rain-X anti-fog. Kind of a pain to put on, but worth it in the spring and fall with we tend to get more rain. And yes, it's hot as hell in the summer w/o AC!

For those of you who do not have AC. As a daily driver, what do you do on a rainy foggy day? All the windows fog up within seconds, and nothing help. Can't open the windows because of the rain. What do you do?

Calling Mike K

Hey you guys who've removed yours how did you plug the lines at the firewall into the evap? Anyone come up with anything better than balled up saran wrap and duct tape? olo.

the past 5 cars (4 Volvo's and a GMC pickup) did not have working a/c (Sweden does not need it that much)
..so I am use to not having it.

I very rarely use the a/c on the ITR.. but when I do it is for window de-fogging or sweat prevention.

tape is your friend.

there is no plug for the Civic's w/o a/c.. they simply did not have the hole punched in the firewall.
