new brakes, need help
I replaced the rear calipers on my 90 crx si because the old ones were froozen. Since I have replaced the calipers I now have a rattle in the back of my car. There is nothing in the back of my car now that didn't used to be in my car so I think it is something on my calipers. It sounds like a tin piece of metal is bouncing around at times.
Do I need to go in reverse for awhile to get my calipers to set? I was told something about going in reverse to set the brakes but I think that is only for drums?
Could it be the thin piece of metal that is in the middle of the caliper and is in kind of a flattened "V'' shape? Do you really need this piece. I'm talking about the piece in the bottom left of this picture.Sry I forget how to post pics.

That part is a spring that keeps the pads pushed into the caliper bracket. It keeps the pads centered on the rotor. You definently need it. If the rotor is touching that part it could make that noise. It's only supposed to push on the pads & not the rotor.
You should also check the splash guards (behind the rotor). If they are bent or something, they can contact the rotor too.
Also, you don't need to adjust the parking brake by backing up. The only adjustment is turning the adjsuting nut underneath your armrest/console. It should be adjusted so the brakes just barely start to drag after the 1st or second click of the parking brake...

Should this piece thouch the pads at all times. When I put the pads in the calipers the spring didn't come in contact with the springs.
I don't think it is the splash gaurd. I did break a bolt that holds the splash guard on and it sounds like I have a bell in the back if my car when I hit bumps. When I fix the splash guards I will check the caliper springs. I will post the results tom. of how it sounds after I fix the splash guard.

I took the dust shield off and there is still a rattle in the back of my car. It is most likely something to do with my brakes because that is the only thing I worked on over the winter. It seems that the noise is louder in reverse too. So does anyone have anything I can check?
Would having solid motor mounts cause parts in the brakes to rattle. That is about the only thing I can think of.
Thanks for the help

were you saying above that the "spring" ,as you call it, was not touching the pads? if not, i would bend it a little so that it bpushes the pads toward the rotor(i think this is right as i am trying to picture this in my head). when i replaced the rear calipers on girl, i had to take those pieces off the old ones. i remember bending them to keep everything snug. hope this did not mess you up.
I checked the spring and now that the calipers are on the car the spring is now in contact with the pads.
Does anyone have anything for me to check????
What do wheel bearings sound like when they are starting to go bad?

Rice-Crispies in milk... You may also notice some wobble or play if you wiggle the tire up-down & left-right with the car on jack-stands...
