Default getting screwed on stolen ITR's value- help!!!

Ok, it's been about 2 months and not a single word on my stolen itr...

the insurance company is busting my ***** like crazy, first wanted to give me 9200 after my $500 deductable. 1998 itr, clean with 108k. They use a company called ADP, who is responsible for getting an accurate value for the car based on many variables. They could not find any 98's that sold in my area, state or region. They expanded the search to east of the mississippi and found 1 car, in WI that sold for 14,700 with less mileage. I was hoping for 14 but it's not looking good, my recent quote was for 13,700 before the $500. Should I take it?

Anyone ever use a public adjuster? I told her that's the point i'm at but my gut is telling me it will be a big waste of time for not much or any gain.

i'd love to hear what others got for their stolen 98's...

Considering the high mileage on your car, I think $13,700 is a reasonably fair offer.

I say the exact same thing I'd take it.

sometimes you just have to cut your loses and suck it up. I wouldnt expect to get much more than that. tell them to search west coast too, see what they come up with.

Sad to say, but probably the best you're going to do with the ins co.
My condolences, again.

you've already lost the car and have a semi-decent settlement offer... so it wouldn't hurt to ask them to try an even more expanded search. hold out, my friend. good luck!

Your situation is similar to what mine was when they were trying to find a value of the car to decide if they were going to total it. At first they said something rediculously low (like around 9.5K) then stepped it up to something reasonable which put the car out of total territory. I'd be be happy with $13,700 though.

keep fighting with them until you get what you think its worth. Remember you are suppose to get back the money that it will "cost you to buy another 98 type R". My 01 GSR was stolen about 2 months ago with only 65,000km on it with a rebuilt title and I got $18,300CAN for mine.

Never settle for less man. My uncle got $8,000CAN for his 20 year old beemer because he was able to show that he maintained it. They wanted to first give him $1500 but a month of arguing got him the $8G's

also use craigslist, ebay, and autotrader as references.. if you hold out you might be able to get the money your looking for.. but be realistic about it as well.

sorry to hear about your car

I woudlnt take anything less than what you're happy with. My gf's salvage title si got stolen. and at first the insurance company was being real friendly trying to help out but then it took weeks at a time to get a response and eventually a month or so down the road they tried to settle with us at 6300. Clean title or not this car was worth more. We said we wanted 10k because thats what we were gonan list it for because we were planning on selling it. We played hard ball and never accepted their offer not once even considered or budged on what we were asking for after about 6 months of fighting we walked away with a check for 10700

Don't settle. Fight it to the end. I remember getting 14k for my 98' GSR, when it got stolen, after two months of battling with the insurance company.

if your not happy with the payout do not agree to anything. insurance claim reps. need to finish each claim at an alotted time period. make the person come down to your price. do not let them pressure you into signing anything you truely do not agree with. if you can not come to an agreed price with this adjuster ask to speak with his/her supervisor. if they make an excuse make calls and let them know your adjuster is not working with you to end this claim. this is to get the adjuster to understand very quickly that you are not going to sign anything unless the price goes up and he/she cooperates. if they dont budge ask to get another claim rep to look at the car. remember you paid for insurance, now you want the best service from this company and you should get it.

You can't just hold out and expect them to raise their offer; you will need to justify your claim for a higher value. You'll need actual sales; insurance companies know that asking prices posted in ads are expected to come down to an actual selling price.

If you look around, you may find that you can't find ITRs with such high mileage selling for more than they're offering. If so, this means that their $13,700 offer is fair and you should accept it.

Then hold out for $30,000.

Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the responses... When I wrote this post I was pretty worked up from discussing (defending) it with the adjuster... I don't want to come across as thinking 13,700 is not adequate, but moreso curious of others' experiences were when determining an appropriate price for such a rarely sold car, in dealerships at least (98's). They really do not take into account private ads, it's the actual price the car's sold for; which really is logical. They need to pay me what it'll cost to put me back in what I had; not what they feel it was worth.

Another argument is finding one not modified, which many enthusiasts including me would rather over a modified one. All 3 of the ad's found were pretty modified itr's, the adjuster could not figure out why I thought an itr in stock trim was worth as much or more than one modified(unless it's wes's )....

They jumped from 9700 to 13700 pretty quickly, and she went back to try and dig up more. I've already decided i'm taking whatever the call is, i'm not going to be greedy but i'd obviously like to get the maximum available. wouldn't you?

some background info for those who don't know. My first one stolen 2 years after owning with 23k on, they wanted to give me ~18k... I showed them numerous ad's, one a dealer, who were selling 01's at msrp, 24,9. Every one was modified and missing oem parts, hood wheels seats, ect. Mine was pristine and a complete virgin. They ended up paying me msrp PLUS tax.. I worked another 10k out of 'em, think about that for a minute..............

Our 98 ITR was stolen last year april 2005, we knew it was going to be a big fight with the insurance so we googled ITR on the net and dug up everything there was on the car as to it's racing heritage and rareness. we also had just under 100k miles on the car and it was a salvage title vehicle when in the US but when we imported it to canada and registered it our title stated that the car was clean. that helped us out big time.

Anyway we also pulled off the internet ever other 98 ITR that was forsale in Canada at the time. told the insurance if they wouldn't give us going value to replace it then they could go and get one of the other R in the country forsale, these where all out west in Alta, BC ( I live in NS). anyway they didn't want to travel so far to get us a new car and cut us a check for $22650 CDN which they cut in less then 10 days after the theift. The next day we were on a plan and flew to Toronto and picked up our 2001 ITR with under 73000km and warranty to 160000km or 2008 for $21k. and it was the nicest road trip home ever.

this is of the new 01

$13,700 is more than reasonable for a 9 year old car with over 108k miles. I'd be happy with that number & take the money. I mean, what do you think is a reasonable value?? $15k+ for a 108k+ mi. car??
