Default check engine codes on my ls

well i have a 1996 ls special edition, and for about 2 months now i've had check engine and maint req, lights on and the codes that show are P0420, P1336, AND P1337 I believe the first one is a o2 sensor code, i was wondering was that because i gutted my cat or would that not throw a code. any advise

to reset you maint. req light look up under you dash and you will see a button hold that in and that will go away. If you cant find the button look in your manual it has a pic there

The P0420 is a Catalyst System Efficiency below threshold code, so I would say that is a direct result of having a gutted cat.

The P1336 and P1337 are intermittent interruption and no signal codes for the Engine (Crankshaft) Speed Fluctuation Sensor.

Obd2 isn't very fond of a gutted cat, Not sure about the crankshaft though.

Exactly, you might want to switch over to obd1, go to a high-flow cat, or an o2 simulator

As for the crankshaft speed position code, it could be a distributor, sparkplug, sparkplug wire problem. I believe the distributor has the crankshaft position sensor integrated into it, so you could try to get a new CPS harness. I would first replace your spark plugs and see if that helps, then test for connectivity with a multimeter (look in the helms manual at http://www.redpepperracing.com), and then replace the harness or the entire distributor, depending on the cheaper option. Sometimes buying a dizzy from distributorking is cheaper than replacing one expensive component.
