Default Best Bet For A D15B7

Apparently this motor doesn't have much potential from what I've read. What is the best bet for my civic?

If you wanna keep the stock motor and make power then turbo it.

I had a B7 till I blew the head gasket twice in a 5 month period. I dumped it for a D15B Vtec (JDM). Check out Makoto_autoparts on ebay. Got mine for $341 incl. tax from their warehouse in Longbeach, Cali. If you dont want to do any swapping, the I suggest the usual I/H/E. Im not sure if any of the Cyl head parts, springs, retainers, etc. for a Z6 will fit but it might be some looking into if you got your heart set on a built D15B7. Maybe sum new pistons to bump C/R up too.

If you don't wanna boost then swap in a k20r and you'll be making about the same power (but you'd really have to go after the b7, not that it's impossible at all).

Well if you wanna keep the d15, I'd say go with i/h/e, maybe a slight head mill, and either an a6 cam or an aftermarket cam (like crane, delta, whatever, do some research on it if you're interested)

Don't hate because you've been on the site for a few more months than this other person. I could say the same do you but replace trial with n00b shitbag or something such, but then again, there's no need for that.

ok "big money" some of us can't or don't want to replace **** all the time just so we can be a retard. and what do you run in your car now that makes a boosted d suck ***? what was the cost?

and yes 150 is so easy on boost it's sick i will be daily driving 200-230. for what your looking for (whp) the price on a swap is just retarded

build your own turbo setup for under a grand

Agreed... but work with what u got. Placing a new engine in the car will not make him/her faster if she/he sucks at driving.

It's proven the b16 is quicker... its geared for acceleration opposed to the y series tranny. There is no debate d15 vs b16 :::

If your looking to make power or just facilitate the illusion... clutch flywheel, intake, ignition, good fluids.. do those

I've found with the d15 more demand is placed on the fluids, ignition components, timing, and effective cooling

ok you relay don't know anything so stfu
100% stock daily driven on a good tune is good for 200 whp
my tuner runs 237 whp daily for about 9 months no problem
http://www.turbod16.com

and yes with d15
low compression pistons
eagle rods
arp head studs
good tune
you can push closer to the 30 whp mark
but it all depends on the tune

i boosted mine and just on the old stock engine with probably 90000 miles i was running high 14s on street tires and 7 psi. i eventually did the mini me swap and it seemed a lot quicker but sold it before i tracked it. not sure if this helps but just letting you know theres SOME potential if you're strapped for cash. i run a DOHC motor now so its basically just what you can afford and what you're looking for. turbo sohc is was more fun than n/a dohc cause of aesthetics and noise but i'm sure others feel otherwise about boost.
