adjusting timing belt tension
how do i adjust the tension of a timing belt on a b16 i see the spring and the screw that it connects to, but i can not get a socket on it because the belt is in the way. Is this the wrong screw, or am i doing somthing wrong.
you dont even need the covers off to tension there is a plastic piece that pops out of the cover, i think its a 12 or 14mm head just loosen, turn crank pulley counterclockwise a bit, and the retighten, its self tensioning
In my experience the spring usually doesn't pull the belt tight enough.
So, what I do is remove the spring, hook the end of a hanger through the hole on the tensioner where the spring goes. Then I loosen the tensioner bolt, pull up on the hanger, and tighten the tensioner bolt. Then I rotate the crank 180 degrees and repeat.
Works great, the timing belt is night and tight!
