whining sound from freshly installed motor
like the title says my motor makes almost like a supercharger whine when reved what could it be, i heard that the timing belt might be too stiff, but how stiff should it be, or i heard that the tensioner pully might have a bad bearing what do you guys think.
Yes that sound most likely has something to do with the timing belt. My wifes accord started making that noise after a timing belt change. Honda told us the noise wan't necissarily bad, but it isn't good either. They told me it is most likely rubbing on somthing to make that sound (accord has two timing belts). The only problem is that you cannot really get in there to check it out without taking the DAMN crank pulley off. That seems to be one of the more difficult things to do (I couldn't get mine off to save my life).
It is possible to pay a mechanic to break loose the bolt for you and then tighten it back down. Then when you get home, you can take it off easily. Just a suggestion...

do you have AC? when the AC idler pulley goes bad thats the sound it makes, remove or cut off the belt (thats what i did since the AC didnt work anyway),
Since the tensioner is "spring" loaded, there really isn't any way for it to be over tensioned. Your just supposed to set the motor at TDC, loosen the tensioner bolt, turn the motor forward 3 cam teeth, and retighten the bolt. If the tensioner spring is bad at the time of the tensioning procedure, then it could definenlty be "under-tensioned"...

Mine whines a bit, but I don't really worry about it. I'm pretty sure it's my timing belt. I tensioned it using the good old, "coat hanger" method. Because when I tensioned the belt according to the manual the belt was too loose and the teeth got chewed up within a few thousand miles.
I'm not making that mistake again, I tightened the **** out of that thing. It makes a bit of a whine, but it's not that loud and I keep an eye on my timing belt anyways, so if it starts to wear funky, I'll loosen it up a bit. But from what I've read, it's okay to have your timing belt tight.

How about just loosening up your accessory belts a tad. I've seen that many a times and have done it myself. (last week as a matter of fact on an Oddessey) Do one at a time to determine which one it is. If one starts to squeel its too loose. OHpe that was helpful.
Almost forgot, rule of thumb for timing belts is you should be able to twist it about 90 degrees on the longest section between 2 pulleys under tension. Thats a good yardstick for tension if your not sure.

sounds like the only thing besides the pulley
