Axles problem
Hi guys, I just put a D16Z6 in my 91 DX. I changed the tranny also and now have a 90 SI tranny with 92 SI motor. There seems to be a problem with the axles. They seem to be too short and pop out of the tranny. Are the 4th gen SI axles longer than the 4th gen DX axles? I alwayt thought they were both the same, since I think the SI and DX trannies have the same casing.
Anyone knows?
Anyone knows?
I changed my 88 dx tranny out of my crx and put in the 89 Si, changed the cup on the passenger side of the tranny to match the dx bearings, and i used my dx axels. I matched my dx axels up to the Si axels side by side before installing them, the dx were the exact same length, teeth all were the same, everything is still working even after a bunch of abuse. So yes i believe that the Si and dx axels are the same length, maybe they were different from 90-91?i hope i was of some help.
when you find out why, please let me know cuz i am about to put the 95 civic ex motor in my 88 dx using 89 Si tranny and dx axels. is it both axels coming out or just one, maybe the engine is mouted in slightly of center and causes more of a gap from wheel to tranny? i just know i don't want the same problem...thanks
hey man, i was thinking about this, my friend had an eclipes and his motor mounts were bad. I don't remember what it was about the but when he turned real hard the engine would shift because the mounts were bad and when it shifted the axels came out. he ended up having to change his mounts. maybe an idea? just throwing out a guess. But i know that the 88 and 89 stuff is all inter-changable, and the 90-91 stuff is too. as long as you stay in the brackets because 89-90 the changed the crx a little. the company that did my friends b16 swap was explaining it to me. so if you are using 90 Si tranny and 91 dx axels...or the other way around the length and teeth should not be a problem at all. maybe this will help some? also i sent an email to ur hotmail asking something about the d16z6 swap...please respond. thanks

hi
the 88-91 axles are shorter than the 92-95 single overhead units, the only problem is the outer c.v. has a larger seal surface. i could tell you how to measure the car to get the proper axle lenght if you want.
