d series tanny help
ok this has been covered before but the thread was hijacked by the 92-00 civic newbs
im looking for someone who knows about trannys not someone to tell me to check the fluid level
00 civic converted to manual 9 months ago, s40 b000 EX tranny aprox 65k miles
BRAND NEW slave, master, exedy clutch and ACT flywheel
problem:
-tranny pops out of 2nd gear at low to mid rpms
-holding the shifter against 2nd gear (not putting it in) makes a whirling sound
-putting in 1st gear when rolling slow is a little iffy
-3,4,5 and reverse are perfect
-NONE of the gears grind ever
-not leaking anywhere, input shaft bearing also iffy
I'v heard this is not a problem with syncros, can someone help or direct this to someone who can, thanks
I'v already opened the case of a s40 tranny if its changing one of those top bearings without taking out the whole gear set, I can do that, putting the gears back in i'm not up to

most likely bent shift fork. but take a look at your shifter stabilizer make sure the bolts are tight, check the motor mounts etc, anything that will allow the motor to move or the linkage to move.
forgot to add
-JIM FAB torque mounts
-ES poly shifter bushings
-skunk 2 shifter (doesnt matter anyway)
I doubt the shift forks are bent as the s40 trannys are steal and the 92-95 s20 are aluminum

some people chop the frame up and reweld it, that's why I was asking.

synchros do nothing but match the speed of the individual gear with the corresponding synchro sleeve/hub so that it doesn't grind when being engaged. Now I realize that you probably don't understand what this means (not that there's anything wrong with that) But basically, all I am saying is that once the gear is engaged, the synchro does nothing but sit there. If the gears are popping out, then the dog teeth on the gears are completely worn out. (TONS of gear grinding) or the shift fork is bent, or you have soggy motor mounts. Or the bellhousing isn't bolted tight enough to the engine. Check all of the bolts and make sure that everything is bolted correctly. Then check your motor mounts to see if they're soggy/need replacement. if so, there's some 3m goop **** that you can get from lowes that you can put in there for a cheap/quick/easy fix.
well none of my motor mounts are soggy, my tranny is not falling off the engine, and I have some poly mounts (the engine is NOT moving), when I first got the tranny it was PERFECT, and I havent slammed any gears EVER, and adding to the fact that the shiftforks are steal THEY ARE NOT BENT!!!!
I heard some where on here that its a simple bearing that can be replaced, when you say synchro sleeve, you mean the ring with the teeth on the inside that the shift fork slides up and down.
Or a bent shift fork. Haven't you ever seen steel bend, since you know so much about transmissions maybe you should not post and just fix it yourself Sicones. I think that you need to realize that it is a possiblity that yes the shift fork did bend, I wouldn't rule it out until you crack the case open.

exactly, disbelief gets you nowhere when it comes to troubleshooting.

Just because they are steel doesn't mean they won't bend.
The difference between the aluminum forks and the steel forks is that the aluminum will break under conditions where the steel will just bend.
