Default 96 DX 5sp

Just bought this car last week. A one owner that has never been wrecked 115k miles. What kind of upgrades do you suggest? What about Forced Induction? Maybe a turbo or something. don't really want to swap motors right now.

tranny swap, look for a 92-95 ex or si tranny or a 96-00 ex tranny, best bang for buck mod u can make.

Does it have a closer gear ratio? Sorry for the noobness! So don't bother with engine mods? was reading another thread about Mini-me? I guess his is swapping to Vtec?

115k? Jesus thats a lot of miles. I wouldn't suggest turboing it at all, that motor would blow in a heartbeat.

I wouldn't even do a mini-me.....i would just swap IM and boost it.......i have seen Y7's that can beat Y8's with the same mods all day....for some reason some Y7's are freaks....i love them.

do the tranny swap 1st then worry about bolt ons and mods and has shorter gearing then the dx tranny. you will def be able to feel the difference with the tranny swap instnatly, if you do any bolt ons etc... they may give you small gains but you really won't get much of a gain. there are people making pretty decent numbers with the sohc's n/a, just search and read.

As a non VTEC D series it has the following problems:

Shitty, slow motor.

Any D16Y has lubrication problems. Rev past 5000, and smell.

Horrible gear ratios

Little tiny bearings in the said tranny.

to mod the D series, you will STILL need a block, head, tranny, and axles, in otherwords a whole motor swap. IMO, if you need a WHOLE swap, and are NOT doing it yourself, get a B or H.

</TD></TR></TABLE>

Yeah I'd have to agree- I've got the Sohc 5spd car and I have to say it is a pretty good gas saver but I"m not terribly impressed with the car. The tranny makes some bearing noise, the check engine light seems to go on every five minutes with a new issue and the thing uses oil too (which seems to be a common problem) with 135k (about 1.5-2 quarts per 3000 miles). The 40mpg is tough to beat, but its definitely not the greatest car I've ever owned. Had a jeep with 180k on it with the I6 4.0 that seemed a much more solid car. Anyway, that's just my 2 cents-
