Default ob2 -obd1 distributor and conversion harness ?????'s

I have a h22 swap and I have a obd2 distributor on my motor. My harness is obd2 and I have a p28 with stepdown I want to get chipped and tuned... I was told that you cannot use a obd2 distributor with a obd1 ecu.. If this is so, why??? also I have read and read and tried to figure out how to wire in my obd1 distributor but I cannot get a simple explanation!!!

You can run the OBD2 distributor with an OBD1 ecu. There are no issues with that. The OBD0 distributor will not work with the OBD1 or OBD2 ecu and vice versa.
