fabbed an odyssey battery hold down
oh hells yeah... made this aluminum hold down for my buddy who has an LS1FC also, he bought the 14.5 pound Odyssey battery and saw a similar hold-down on ebay for bug bucks. I took some measurements and drew up a print then worked on the mill for a few hours and the lathe for a half hour and came up with this. hot damn it super shiny in the sun all buffed up and polished. the entire assembly weighs around 2 pounds with all of the hardware. no pics of it installed but you get the drift... my DIY projects are getting better!
enjoy...

enjoy...

damn. i think you could get hit by a tank at 60mph and the battery wouldn't move an inch. there'd be a piece of firewall sheet metal on the ground with a battery attached to it.

agreed, looks great
definitely could get a lot more weight off the thing though, the top and bottom could be thinner and the top could have lightening holes also, but nonetheless nice work

looks nice! i know what you mean about them (the ones that Odyssey sells) being pricey! I like the other style that they also make.
looks good, but if you are going to put in the trunk, most race tracks will require you to have a box. I don't know if you race or not, and also if you are going to relocate your battery. But the tray looks ****.
lol
a lot of "make it even more lightweight!" comments in here, man I love you guys, you're on the right page! its pretty damn light as-is but I had thought about putting holes in the top piece or machining it thinner, but its going into my friends caged, widebody 1990 RX7 with a modified LS1 V8 pushing 450bhp and its gonna be on track this weekend, I sure want it as strong as possible. it will be in the rear passenger storage bin which has its own lid and most tech inspectors dont have a problem with the battery being in there and not using a certified box. I'm sure it would need to be in a box for actual solo1 racing, but not for an autox or trackschool.

thanks for the kind words! if I could get time on the CNC machines here at work... I'd mill about 100 of these things and make them superlighteight with cool CNC made cutouts and weight saving X's and stuff, but its a PITA to make these on the hand controlled vertical mill machine, it takes so long that way

how can you say that is heavy?? around 2 lbs with hardware is not bad at all.. I mean he can remove more weight to make it lighter but is 1 lb. really going to make that much of a difference in a car???

It's not the weight, It just doesn't look fast from a art perspective. Case in point, who really needs a carbon fiber hood when they run 14's.
looks good, just slice those pieces in half, then your cooking.

I think you might be too caught up in what looks fast compared to what works and is still fast.
case in point, who needs to machine even more holes in that piece when its already a two pound assembly...? its not like any more lightening will save any weight that will be noticable... and from an art perspective you are way over critical of the appearance. if I had a cnc mill, I could have programmed in some fancy schmancy bogus design on the top to make it look like it was a $150 piece of jdm razzamatazz.
